Maybe 2.
One thing lost in all the dumping on Cooks for being soft (I include myself) is that he helped the rest of the guys by giving the D somebody they had to be concerned with deep. He opened things up.

I want a "burner" to add a dimension that we don't have as currently constituted or they'll be able to squeeze the other stuff. Our best offense is one that threatens the entire field, which I think is self-evident no matter how good the short and middling stuff is and the best Ds -- the sort that we face in the postseason -- are the ones that will know how to make life tough for us if we don't.

I'll also suggest that the deep ball was Brady's friend last season. His downfield QB rating was excellent. It likely won't be as good with the current WR crop and the offense as a whole may suffer.

As is stands we have a couple of maybes/underachievers in Patterson and Dorsett and instead I'd prefer we add a guy that scares the shit out of defensive coordinators and backs people off.

Will those two get that done? Hogan?

I think you answered your own question.

Patterson and Dorsett on go routes will open stuff up if they show they can catch with any efficiency. Not asking them to do much else. If they canít? See ya!

I don't think it matters if they can catch it or not. It's the NFL. If somebody is flying down the field, you have to send someone with him. If there's nobody on him at all then he's damn sure going to catch it...at least theoretically.

I'm not going to pass judgement on Dorsett until I see his performance after a full off season. He started with Hamilton's west coast offense, then went to Chudzinski's air coryell cluster fvck, then fast forward to McD's PE offense with no off season. I can't recall any Pats WR coming onboard without an off season that has been a go to guy for Brady.

I know Iím late but I wanted to take the first couple of days to really reflect on how far the Lord has brought me and what Heís calling me to do in New England. The opportunity to play for the Patriots is the ultimate honor and Iím excited to get to work with the guys! LETS GO!!

I remember going to my first Bible study as an Eagle and realizing it wasnít lead by a team chaplain... it was lead by the starting Quarterback. @NFoles_9 is a true servant and his impact will transcend anything he does on a field!

What a shame it would be if we were waiting for God to say something, while He's been waiting on us to do something.

Detail in Patriots' deal with WR Jordan Matthews shows the bargain:
one-year, $1 million, plus $700K in incentives. Only $170K is guaranteed.

This is a helluva bargain for Matthews. Buffalo sends another player to the Pats on the cheap. smh @ Buffalo.
Hogan, Dorsett, Hollister, Matthews, Edelman, Mitchell, Britt, McCarron and Patterson & Slater as STs specialists in an emergency role.
Pats normally keep 6 including Slater (but excluding Patterson) leaves 5. I've bolded 6 above bc of Mitchell's health being unknown. Let them compete!
McCarron and Hollister to the PS again.

I don't mind Matthews. Hopefully he does well.

The Pats don't have a single WR to make over $3M.
Edelman will be paid $3M exactly for 2018 although his cap hit is $4.2M.

Matthews amassed more yards from the slot than any other receiver in the league from 2014 through 2016 with the Eagles, according to Pro Football Focus, which accounted for 89% of his NFL total through 46 appearances.

The big targetís history there could very well be his future in New England.

It makes Matthews more of a candidate to replace Danny Amendolaís role in the offense than Cooksí.

Matthews checks in four inches taller and 22 pounds heavier than the 32-year-old Amendola, who signed a two-year, $12 million contract with the Miami Dolphins as free agency opened last month. And while not as quick, his game carries comparable fight Ė and thereís 1,044 yards worth of post-catch production to show for it.
Playing Amendolaís pivotal part in the most pivotal moments isnít something thatíll happen overnight. The same goes for gathering quarterback Tom Bradyís trust in a passing game predicated on quick-thinking option routes.

The Eagles traded Matthews and a third-round pick to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for cornerback Ronald Darby last August. And the numbers Matthews tallied through his time in Philadelphia did not follow him to Orchard Park.
Matthews chipped his sternum in his first Bills practice and fractured his thumb one month into the regular season. After 10 games and a career-low 25 receptions Ė all from the slot Ė 2017 was over for the 25-year-old. The Bills placed Matthews on injured reserve in December as knee and ankle injuries led to surgeries.

Now healthy, Matthews will contend for a spot on New Englandís depth chart behind Julian Edelman Ė coming off torn ACL suffered in the summer of 2017 Ė and Chris Hogan, Malcolm Mitchell, Phillip Dorsett, Kenny Britt and March trade acquisition Cordarrelle Patterson as well.

The Patriots have special-teams captain Matthew Slater and reserve-futures signings Cody Hollister and Riley McCarron rounding out the position, which makes Matthews one of 10 wideouts in a cupboard full of short-term options.

Heís one of seven not currently under contract with New England beyond 2018, and as The MMQB's Albert Breer reported Monday, guaranteed only $170,000 of a $1 million deal that could net him an additional $700,000 in incentives.
But Matthews is an outside-built receiver with over-the-middle skills. And whatís made him different could make him valuable.

Can someone explain to me what the Hell Buffalo is working toward the last 2 years?

Are they trying to get better picks than the Jets, and the defense just keeps screwing it up?
