What's your point, Tmack? It went up on news about a China trade deal, and is tanking today because the market figured out that the trade deal was not quite a trade deal.

The market, in essence, hasn't moved an inch since approximately a year ago, with fluctuations up and down on a daily basis, but overall has remained under par.

My point is I missed seeing you thank or even credit Trump for the very clear trend of the stock markets going up since he took over the presidency. Where were you?

So there has been a good couple of years (when we were warned of quite the opposite), and I saw nothing positive from you.

Then there's a bad day or week and in you swoop to blame Trump.

It's that double-standard thing yet again.

It's not a "bad day". It's now a trend.

And I didn't see anyone here coming in to thank Obama for eight years of upswing in the market, I think something like 10 or 12,000 points, or close if I'm not mistaken.

The market is where it was on January 1st of this year, essentially, and headed for a recessive bear market. Anyone who is an investor knows this. You should probably divest and go into Treasuries or bonds for a while.

So you justify having a double-standard with your belief that other people have a double-standard too?

There is no fiscal conservatism right now, so that's pretty much a dead issue for me. This administration is pissing away money in ridiculous amounts, increasing the deficit ad infinitum, and not doing what any fiscal conservative could applaud.

As do I, though I must include a woman's right to make decisions for herself with no interference because of someone else's religious beliefs.

Agreed on the sharing of bathrooms, unless a person has absolutely transitioned into the opposite gender. I'm not quite sure I understand some of the name tokens people have taken up, such as pansexual, et al. Yet, I believe they have the right to identify however they choose.

I am up in the air on quotas or affirmative action programs. I do believe there has been in the past a discrimination against minorities in colleges and workplace areas. I do believe that many minorities do not have the opportunities that the majority have. So there has to be some sort of leveling out, but I'm not sure it should be to the disadvantage of some. I guess I have no real position on this issue. Yet, I'm not willing to say it's a discriminatory practice because of what I stated in the previous two sentences. There is most certainly a disadvantage that needs to be addressed in some way.

The problem with vocational retraining to better one's self and assistance with child care/after school to assist low income or single parents is that it's already in place, at least here in Massachusetts. Here's an example of how it works:

A young, single mother is on assistance - housing, food stamps, day care, but she's working for minimum wage, so she needs the assistance. She decides to go to school to become, say, a medical assistant. Good for her. She is able to secure child care, after-school care, food stamps and housing, along with assistance to pay for her education.

Here's the trick. It's not enough for her to survive on, so if she picks up a part-time job when she's done with her classes, that income gets deducted off of what she will receive in assistance. Her housing goes on a scale, so if she earns, say, $600 a month from a part-time job, she now has to contribute to her housing, gets less in food stamps, and has to contribute to the daycare.

So it's a catch-22 for anyone who wants to better themselves. There's no point in working because you're working just to make up what the state or government will no longer contribute while you're trying to raise your child and better yourself by going to school.

As far as any programs such as Social Security, Medicare, etc., we are entitled to those. We paid for them. We loaned the government our hard-earned money. If the government is so irresponsible that it didn't preserve it, they need to figure out what THEY can do without, like their life-long healthcare after they leave office. Right now we're paying millions and millions of dollars to tent 14,000+ immigrant children to private corporations, who have no regulation or accountability, and who you can guarantee our lawmakers have investments in.

I mean, I could go on, but i simply don't have the time. I appreciate your post, though, and wanted to respond in some way.
I agree with you on SS and Medicare. We are indeed entitled to it, as it is a system we have all paid into, and we should all benefit from. Both our portion and our employer's portion is money we would have both been paid directly or able to negotiate to be paid.

And yes, I understand the catch 22 of public assistance and how benefits scale lower based on how much money the beneficiary earns.Maybe it's simply solved by allowing those who take advantage of the vocational training/schooling to earn say up to 500-1000 dollars a month without a decrease in the public assistance while they are enrolled in the training programs. Maybe a public/private partnership with employers who are in the beneficiary's field of study offering paid internships while they are in training programs and making that income exempt from their benefit calculations.

I won't broach the subject of abortion as I know we disagree on that and no need to beat the dead horse.

As for the right to identify as what one wishes, I am in support. That being said, I am an old damned man and I refuse to educate myself to the point that I am fluent in it, and other than "bro" or "dude" don't expect me to use the correct noun or pronoun regardless...male or female lol. My wife still gets pissed after 32 years when I refer to her as dude or bro...when she effs up and I am like "duuuuuuuude"....so if I won't even do it for my wife, I surely won't do it for a friend, acquaintance or stranger.

On the topic of affirmative action type policies, quotas etc as I said I recognize the history of marginalization of certain peoples based on their skin color, gender, sexual orientation, religion etc and we are mostly on the same page that playing field need(s)ed to be leveled. Our disagreements are probably minor (semantic even vis a vis disadvantaged vs discriminatory) I just think it's ironic that the best solution we could come up with to battle one person's disadvantage is to disadvantage another.

Finally, I agree that the current administration is a poor example of fiscal conservatism. Hell, Trump isn't and has never been a conservative. He isn't a racist either. He is an amoral authoritarian who only cares about one color...green...in both his business and political pursuits. To be honest I have seen our deficit grow under virtually every administration in my lifetime (and no, the surplus myth under Clinton doesn't count in my book). Neither party has been a good steward of the public's trust or money in my lifetime, Neither party can claim positive fiscal stewardship when both have kicked the infrastructure can down the road for the past several decades. You can't claim a balanced budget when critical services (defense, infrastructure, H&HS etc) go unfunded or woefully underfunded, and both sides do this.

Once again, Congress has a bigger impact on the market than the POTUS, no matter who the POTUS. Pretty sure the Rs have controlled Congress since the upswing.

Today's 4th largest drop in the Dow ever of 800 points is the direct result of Trump proclaiming a trade deal with China, and then the truth that there isn't one and that he's a "tariff" guy.

He is personally and single-handedly moving the market up and down.

So Congress also requested docs from him, and he is refusing to produce them. Documents don't have a 5A privilege. He can claim they would incriminate him, but he could be given immunity with regard to the documents. He won't win this one.

On another note, the Flynn memo is out. Several things to note.

He met NINETEEN times with SC.

Parts of the memo are under seal because they involve active investigations.

He provided extensive info on a criminal investigation not Russia related that is heavily redacted.

Mueller recommends NO INCARCERATION because of the extensive information he provided involving several investigations.

He flipped bigly.

It will be interesting to see if lawyered-up Pence of the transition team who worked with Flynn daily is implicated in any way in the end.

The biggest redactions are about the "collusion" investigation. It is right after discussion of Flynn's contacts with Russia and "others", indicating others in the transition team's contacts with Russia.

It also indicates the "Presidential" transition team, so that would include Jared, Pence, Jr, Bannon, and there is an ongoing CRIMINAL investigation here. That's significant.

Interesting stuff. I think a few people should be pretty sick to their stomachs right about now.

Mueller just showed that he can essentially pardon those who cooperate, whereas Trump is highly unlikely to.

Whoever feels that they are implicated in those redacted pages must be thinking really hard about their options tonight. Approach Mueller with their information, or place their faith in Trump who has demonstrated that he'll turn on you in a second as soon as it's expedient for him?

That's a shame. He was a good and decent human being who was imperfect, as we all are. But he was a patriot, served his country for seven decades the best he was able, and a loving and devoted husband and father.

He did not shame this country and deserves the respect he's getting this week.
