3. The mayor of Baltimore tried stealing the Colts away from the Irsays without even paying for the team by claiming the team was eminent domain. This was why the Colts left in the middle of the night by Mayflower moving trucks. If they hadn't, Irsay risked losing the team without even getting paid for it.
4. Indianapolis already had built the Hoosier Dome (later renamed the RCA dome) to accomodate an NFL expansion team.

So in essence, Baltimore literally forced the Colts to leave the city by their own actions. What did they think their owner was going to do when they tried to steal the team away?
A wordy effort for he took a better deal.

He took a better deal because he pretty much didn't have any other choice. Move or lose the team.

Winning a court case claiming a private business is eminent domain sounds extremely far fetched

Not sure if you know the answer to this but when the Colts moved it Indy, why didn't Irsay change the name? Why did he keep the Colts legacy that was built in Baltimore and transfer to Indy? I remember Unitas saying he hated that and the Colts were dead to him in Indy. Typically when a franchise moves like that, they change the name so the history of the team remains with the original city.

Huh. Imagine that? A Patriot fan being called lazy because he didn't read up on all the details of a situation that will forever tarnish a franchise.

The Cardinals didn't.
The Rams didn't when they moved to St. Louis.

I think the only team that kept their name & history are the Browns.

Those teams didn't have any winning history. The colts had unitas. Seems odd the history did not stay in Baltimore.

Not odd at all. The city of Cleveland & the season ticket holders took legal action to keep the name & history. The NFL was forced to make a deal. Apparently the good people of Baltimore didn't care enough to make an effort to keep the name. So to get the answer to your question it needs to be directed to the Baltimore football fans.

I was commenting on the post that Irsay left for a better deal and shared why he left. I was no fan of old man Irsay's, but he was left no choice on leaving Baltimore. Old man Irsay was a terrible owner.

Name changes for franchise moves go both ways equally. These are the ones I can think of.

NFL/AFL

New England Patriots -> St. Louis Stallions (was all but set in stone pre-Kraft)
Dallas Texans -> Kansas City Chiefs
Houston Oilers -> Tennessee Titans
Cleveland Browns -> Baltimore Ravens

NBA

Seattle Supersonics -> Oklahoma City Thunder
Charlotte Hornets -> New Orleans Pelicans

MLB

Montreal Expos -> Washington Nationals
Washington Senators -> Minnesota Twins
Washington Senators (2) -> Texas Rangers
St. Louis Browns -> Baltimore Orioles

NHL

Quebec Nordiques -> Colorado Avalanche
Colorado Rockies -> New Jersey Devils
Winnipeg Jets -> Phoenix Coyotes
Atlanta Thrashers -> Winnipeg Jets
Minnesota North Stars -> Dallas Stars (Can be looked at both ways)
Hartford Whalers -> Carolina Hurricanes

Eminent domain is a weak crutch to lean on.
