LII wasn't BB's biggest blunder

I retract what I said about BB and LII:

Quote:
Down the stretch of the season, Jimmy G elevated every player on the 49ers' roster. His pinpoint ball placement allowed previously third-fiddle receivers to morph into dangerous weapons. His quick trigger and ability to throw off his back foot aided a banged-up offensive line. His talent for moving the ball kept the 49ers' porous defense off the field and in positive situations.

In his first three games starting for the 49ers, Garoppolo led just one three-and-out punt. San Francisco scored on a whopping 62 percent of Jimmy G's drives this season -- for perspective, the Patriots were second at 51 percent.

Since he entered the NFL in 2014, Garoppolo has completed 67.3 percent of his passes (4th-highest, min. 250 attempts) with an 8.3 yards per attempt average (first) and a 99.7 passer rating (fifth).
All on a team with a crappy OLine, a TE who probably wouldn't start on any other team in the NFL, and Reche Caldwell-ish WRs.

I was not crazy about not kicking any FGs against Denver in 2015.

Even 1 FG in the 2nd and 3rd to last drives means that Gronk TD at the end wins the game.

He is still the best coach ever, but that was not his best day.

For sure, I mean then we could cut the rest of the team and pay the backup QB 137 mil dollars. BB must be stupid.

The Patriots' scouting and personnel departments are doing something very right.

3 years in a row, the Patriots drafted players that are now among the highest-paid at their positions on their 2nd deal
2012: Chandler Jones,
2013: Jamie Collins,
2014: Jimmy Garoppolo

And BB had them on cheap rookie contracts.

It's amazing that some here aren't NFL GM's since they clearly are more brilliant than BB.

Currently, the Pats have $17M in cap space. Yes, they will increase that as they terminate contracts, but there was no way they could have kept JG under the franchise tag and not hurt the rest of the roster.

And as much as Felger wants to keep saying the cap is crap, it is not. It can be manipulated short term, but eventually the piper has to be paid.

all true but they certainly should have received more than an upgrade from 3-2 to trade him, that is the fvck up in this story. i would have been fine with the 2 if there had been a competitive bidding market for JG but for whatever reason BB just wanted JG gone.

I don't blame BB for Jimmy as he wanted to keep the guy.

I can imagine some heated discussions in here say 5 years down the road where we argue whether 10-12 years of Jimmy was worth more than 2-3 years of Brady.

Cleveland offered a 2nd and a 3rd, same as they offered the Bengals.

but you will laugh because I see Hoyer as a big part of this trade, you had no back up QB. that is worth the 3rd pick you gave up.

plus you will not face the 49ers as much as Cleveland so he is not an issue as often.

Scott Mitchell. Matt Flynn. Brock Osweiler. Matt Cassell.

I'm not saying that Jimmy G. is any one of these guys. But there are more stories like theirs than there are of successful backups who flourished on other teams. Maybe Drew Brees with the Chargers or even Brett Favruh with the Falcons but I don't think either of those two were projected to be the studs that they became.

I drank the Kool Aid many years ago and I continue to drink it. Keeping Jimmy was not really an option unless you jettisoned Brady. And that wasn't happening.
