"Teams that win too much or dominate too long are always hated. Back in the ’50s when I was a kid and the Yankees were in the World Series every year, the Yankees were hated everywhere outside New York ... and even IN New York, by Dodgers and Giants fans. Vince Lombardi’s Packers were hated, and so were the Cowboys when they were good. And the Patriots have had a longer run at the top than any of those."

Let's not heap too much praise on Martin, who famously wrote Belichick into the series. Your quote above is followed by this:

Quote:
Bottom line, Americans love their scrappy underdogs. The Amazin’ Mets, Joe Namath’s Jets, the Miracle on Ice, Seabiscuit, the Cinderella Man. When David faces Goliath, only the Philistines root for Goliath. Also: 1) They cheat. They have been caught twice, which makes you wonder how many times they haven’t been caught;
 2) they have benefited from some of the worst calls in the history of officiating. From the Tuck Rule against the Raiders to the bogus pass interference against the Jags, somehow they always get the calls.

If it wouldn't be too much trouble, maybe he could give up trying to be a sports analyst and finish the last GOT book before he dies.

Yes.

Completely lost momentum in the series.

Not even sure I’ll bother with it when it does break.

My wife is the type of reader who will finish a book once she reads the 1st pages, no matter how bad she thinks it is. After we started watching GOT, she downloaded the series onto her nook and for the next 6 months, she complained about how poorly it was written. In her opinion, amazing imagination to create the world but he's an awful writer. She's hoping he never finishes it because she'll feel obligated to buy it.

I feel that way about Stephen King. Great storyteller. Terrible writer.

I’m kind of the same way.

Can count on one hand the books I’ve walked away from.

I know I’ll end up giving his a chance. Regretfully.

George Martin finishes the last book, or Brady retires.

Where's your money?

Brady will be POTUS before Martin finishes ASOIAF.

In fact, Martin will never finish, it will ultimately be completed by another author selected by the estate.

Agreed.

Might as well have Brandon Sanderson do it. He is a fantasy writing machine, and given the circumstances, did a pretty good job of wrapping up Wheel of Time.

Sanderson, as much as I love his Stormlight Archive books, is the wrong person for ASOIAF. His religion influences his writing way too much for a series as wide open as GOT.
