None can top Bill Clinton, though. That dude was amazing. Endless "town halls" crowing about his economic achievements. Unreal. It went on for years and years. He criticized everything the Republican congress did on the front end, and then took credit for everything the republican congress did after the fact.

Amazingly good. There will never be another blowhard like Bill Clinton. Never. He was a master.
No, no, no. I'm talking about the gloating Trump does when the market is going up - when it is, it's "all because of me", - he advocates heavily for himself - essentially, I'm a winner, so your're now a winner too. Pure, unadulterated BS. Funny, haven't heard any over this over the top gloating for some time now.

Hey...cheap gas, cheap stocks....it's like a Cost of Living Black Friday Sale!

But then, I'm not really one to let the MSM fill my head with garbage. I think for myself.

Markets are not the economy. They are only loosely associated with one another. Cheap gas and buying cheap stocks with my hard earned cash makes for a damn fine Baron economy, the way I see it.

As for the Fat Cats taking a bath. Fuck 'em. Who cares? Not me. I'm buying up the pieces they are dropping at a discount!
Good strategy. Wish I too had more time. My age and need to maintain assets sufficient to live as I want has forced me to make some protective moves. My risk tolerence has plumetted as my age soars. But We'll be fine.

Yeah, I plan on restructuring my retirement account when I get within 8 years or so of retirement.

For whatever it's worth, I have a significant portion in foreign assets, but I have learned over the years that really, there are no foreign assets. All commodities and assets track one another. It doesn't matter where.

I think that the next crash will be global in every sense, though....not just geographically, but across all investments. We're all going to get hammered at some point before I retire. My benchmark is 2030, give or take a couple of years...but that's just a guess.

Yes, I read what you said. But to take a loss, you have to be selling...i.e. cashing out.

If you're buying, i.e paying into retirement currently, you are better off buying into a low market. All the rest is theoretical bullshit. Not to be totally disregarded...those quarterly statements can be used to make decisions, but you are neither profiting nor losing until you sell.

That's the point.

The points you repeated are not relevant.

Are you talking about pensions or 401k/403a-b? You may be correct about public employee pensions, but virtually every private 401k or it's not for profit equivalent I have ever been involved with the employees get to choose how your funds are invested. With mine not only can I do that but I also can reallocate any time I wish, @ the click of a mouse, should I so desire.

And anyone who has an employer based 401/403 available to them with any kind of company match on contribution should be contributing to it (unless they were able to negotiate opting out and taking the match as salary or pay). Otherwise, you are leaving money on the table.

There are many employers who offer a very wide range of investment options. And regardless of ones opinion of the quality or breadth of those, you're insane not to take the company match. That's free money and tax free on top of it. If one desires investments that aren't supported, you can always do a Roth or other plan that lets you do what you want. And if it bothers you that much, you can always go work somewhere that has a better plan, if you can find that.
There isn't a retirement plan in existence that gives you access to every damned option that exists.

Here's an interesting bit of trivia about inflation:

"The highest numerical value banknote ever printed was a note for 1 sextillion pengő [. . .] printed in Hungary in 1946."

I randomly stumbled upon this while looking up the names of large numbers on Wikipedia.

And I know that in pre Nazi Wiemar Germany the inflation rate was close to that. It took a wheelbarrow of cash to buy a loaf of bread.

Venezuela is in the same situation.

Anyone notice the similarity. All socialist countries. Yet our intellectuals and youth are pushing for this.

Yeah keep printing money with no commodity base.
