Watching Pats D finally be aggressive yesterday and watching this dumpster fire Detroit team (which has no excuse losing to this Jets team) makes me glad McD is the coordinator who stayed.

Yeah, we've been complaining about the conservative play calling on defense for years & blamed BB without realizing the degree of autonomy BB gave the DC. We're beginning to understand now.

I don't want to definitively state it after just one game. And it could be just gameplan. But Patricia went out there and played GTFB against a rookie with turnover issues in his first start.

And the Patriots did Sunday what I've been screaming about for years. Press the pocket up front, lock down in the back. How many times have I said 'May as well blitz, you're getting shredded anyway" in a game thread?

I'll state it and it's not based on this small sample size. It's what I've been told by people who know what's been going on for several months. BB has final say but Josh has 90% control and Flores has 75% control. The players are happy about it, too. Ecstatic actually. Flores is a wish come true for Pats fans. It's not that he'll blitz a lot more but he definitely wants more push. He doesn't believe in his DL giving up yards waiting to see what the O is doing. He believes his DL can see just as well when going forward as when going backwards or holding ground. It's a little tweak that could have a big impact in a game.

I find this interesting, but I shouldn't find this interesting, you know? Even I figured that Belichick ran the defense, but after last night...maybe that wasn't the case.

I'm not expecting an exclusive 46 look or anything, but letting your DL and your linebackers run forward seems like a good idea.

I researched the game last night and it was just incredible how many times the ffrot were in the backfield.

I also noticed some great play from Gilmore. He was everywhere including that play he came all the way across the field to destroy a 25 yard pass in the endzone.

I know, just one game but this D has me excited.

I actually smiled at plays and said out loud holy crap on some.

I've come to the conclusion that Jim Caldwell is a much better coach than he's ever been given credit for.

That seems fair, although when things are going poorly, his statuesque stoicism often gives the appearance of indifference.

Are you suggesting that his stoic stability wasn't a steadying state?
