Angry Calling Dan Pires, What is BB thinking?

http://www.patsfans.com/new-england-...ad.php?t=29187

I just read this post at Patsfans.com.

Mangini to interview with Jets

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Terry Bradway just said on WFAN he's coming up to interview Mangini this week. Interesting.
WE HAVE A HUGE GAME COMING UP ON SATURDAY, AND HE IS GIVING MANGINI TO THE DAMN JETS. FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, HE JUST STARTED COORDINATING THE DEFENSE PROPERLY. I just don't get it. For half a season this defense sucked, and in 8 weeks of good defensive play, all of a sudden he deserves a headcoaching job.
This SUCKS ON SO MANY LEVELS.
What the hell is going on?

Sorry guys. I lost it for a minute. I just hate those Jets. Jealous bastards.

I still think that this sucks, but what can you do?

The Pats don't have a choice. The league has decreed that assistants from all teams left in the playoffs can interview for HC positions this week. BB can't stop it.

To be honest, if the Jets want him, take him. He's only 35 with just one year as a coordinator. There's no way he's ready for a HC position. He'll be out of a job within a few years because he'll be overwhelmed.

I found this info from an article in The Detroit News:

Quote:
The NFL has changed its rules in recent years to increase opportunities for advancement for assistants on playoff teams. They can be interviewed while their teams are in the playoffs, under strict guidelines.

Coaches on teams with first-round byes must be interviewed during the end of the wild-card games and interviews must be done in the playoff team's home city.

Candidates on teams that win the wild-card game must be interviewed between the wild-card game and the divisional round.

After the divisional round, interviews are not allowed with coaches whose teams are still in the playoffs — through the Super Bowl.

We will lose MUCH more than the Jets gain if this comes to pass. If Mangini does go, I would like to see BB re-take the defensive duties and let someone else run the offense...even if it means instituting someone else's scheme. Having TWO of BB's defensive guys within the division will require BB to focus a lot more on keeping the defense unrecognizable to opposing QB's and Coaches.

I don't begrudge Mangini the opportunity to be a head coach. Personally, IMHO, I don't think that he's ready.
I just don't like the timing of it all.

What do you expect from the Jets? Their GM isn't the brightest bulb in the circuit after all he let Edwards get away for a 4th round pick. Right about now with all that Belichick has accomplished other teams in the league would like anything from him. Hell I'm surprised they don't want one of his turds.

I, for one, would love to see Pepper Johnson get an oppertunity as DC should Mangini go.

(Also, would Mangini take anyone with him from the Pats staff??)

Bradway's finding ways to avoid going to the mess that's the Jets front office when he comes up to speak the Pats DC.

I'd be shocked beyond belief if Eric Mangini, who couldn't seem to find his way on the defense the early part of this season, was actually offered the Jets job.

With a top drawer full of diamond-crusted jewelry, Mangini knows he's got it good right now, and probably isn't so inclined to be the next unseasoned Pete Carroll (see Jets and Pats). Even BB struggled as a young head coach.

I'm sure Mangini will let Bradway know in very gracious terms that he'll respectfully decline the opportunity to wallow in misery as the Patriots personal whipping boy until the day BB decides to hang up his Friar Tuck sweatshirt. He, IMHO, just isn't ready. Another thing is that he's got zip for background in the other areas that I believe are prerequisites.

Reportedly, former Packers head coach Mike Sherman's got the inside track to be Herm's replacement.

It's funny the NFL. A few years back the only names you heard when these same opportunities came up were Gary Kubiak's and Ted Cottrell's - now noboby's even mentioning them as a possible head coach candidate.

P.S. LPF, et al: Feel free to e-mail me directly in the future with any questions in the future: DannyPires@aol.com
I'll be sure to get it quicker - I've been sort of casual about my visits lately...I've been doing a lot and traveling all over the place lately, too, and it doesn't appear that it's going to let up.

I may be wrong, but I doubt it. Always, too, take the longer view when things like this come up.

No disrespect to Mangini either. Call it the Jets Trojan horse, though. Anything to distract or put another ding in the Pats three-inch thick armor and growing trophy case.

Teams like the Jets live for the opportunity to piss in another divisional rival's punchbowl - just another distraction for the Pats with hopes that they don't build too much separation by the time it's all over. After all, what's good for the Pats is horrible for the rest of the AFC east.

Thanks...

I think Belichick is grooming Mangini to become his successor, kinda setting us up for the near future when BB decides to move on. His team has broken so many team records, he himself has cemented himself as one of the greatest coaches ever, how much further will he go on? How much more will he have to prove if they 3peat? I could see Mangini taking over the reigns here someday ... because you KNOW Bill is gonna do it (leave us) and it will come when we least expect it. That's him, that's his style. I almost fear the idea of 3peating and winning 4 of the past 5 ...

You had me with letting EM interview with the Jets. I stayed with you when you suggested BB take back the defense, even if someone else runs the offense.

But you lost me when you said even if it means using someone else's scheme. No. No way on God's green Earth. A thousand times "no." They will have to tear the Weis/Brady offensive scheme from my cold, dead fingers.

Any thought of changing this offense brings back too many memories of the Bledsoe years. The four straight years where we had four different coordinators. Ernie Zampese, anyone? Give me the current offense, or give me death.

Not to be too dramatic or anything.
