I think he's asking about Milo.

I can see where the confusion would come from, though.

Milo reminded me of someone, here he is:

https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poe...s/detail/44978

Miniver Cheevy
BY EDWIN ARLINGTON ROBINSON

Miniver Cheevy, child of scorn,
Grew lean while he assailed the seasons;
He wept that he was ever born,
And he had reasons.

Miniver loved the days of old
When swords were bright and steeds were prancing;
The vision of a warrior bold
Would set him dancing.

Miniver sighed for what was not,
And dreamed, and rested from his labors;
He dreamed of Thebes and Camelot,
And Priam’s neighbors.

Miniver mourned the ripe renown
That made so many a name so fragrant;
He mourned Romance, now on the town,
And Art, a vagrant.

Miniver loved the Medici,
Albeit he had never seen one;
He would have sinned incessantly
Could he have been one.

Miniver cursed the commonplace
And eyed a khaki suit with loathing;
He missed the medićval grace
Of iron clothing.

Miniver scorned the gold he sought,
But sore annoyed was he without it;
Miniver thought, and thought, and thought,
And thought about it.

Miniver Cheevy, born too late,
Scratched his head and kept on thinking;
Miniver coughed, and called it fate,
And kept on drinking.

This poem is totally gay to me now after making the Milo connection

I think you mean Islam, not Muslim. There are Muslim nations which are very accepting of homosexuality; some for their entire existence.

This is a place many Cal alumni turn to for news, and I feel there is going to be an annoying narrative hanging in the air today about our campus and our people. In light of yesterday’s events, I want to issue a public service announcement about last night’s protests in Berkeley, because I feel our Golden Bear population deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Anarchists from around the Bay Area, NOT Cal students, were the ones who demonstrated violently last night in Berkeley. Utilizing typical black bloc techniques, they hijacked last night’s peaceful student protest of a certain speaker and turned it into the uncomfortable display that was aired throughout the nation.

That is not necessarily the narrative that was aired out for the public, so I will leave you with this statement from the university.

The violence was instigated by a group of about 150 masked agitators who came onto campus and interrupted an otherwise non-violent protest.

...

The masked agitators came to campus eastbound on Bancroft Way, and fire damage and other destruction to the Stiles Hall construction site, where a new residence hall is planned, was reported. The group entered campus and immediately began throwing rocks at officers. In an effort to avoid injuries to innocent members of the surrounding crowd who might have been caught in the middle, police officers exercised restraint and did not respond with force.

Agitators also attacked some members of the crowd who were rescued by police. UCPD reported no major injuries and about a half dozen minor injuries. Mutual aid officers from the city of Oakland and from Alameda County arrived at Berkeley around 7:45 p.m. to assist UCPD and Berkeley city police.

No arrests had been made by UCPD as of 9:30 p.m.

Campus officials said they condemn in the strongest possible terms the violence and unlawful behavior that was on display and deeply regret that those tactics now overshadow the efforts of the majority to engage in legitimate and lawful protest against the performer’s presence at Berkeley and his perspectives.

People have taken advantage of the Berkeley spirit of free speech to use it to advance their own agenda for a national audience. As a Cal grad, this isn’t the first time it’s happened and it certainly won’t be the last.

For those of you unfamiliar with the history of protest at the University of California, anarchists from OUTSIDE campus have been hijacking peaceful student protests at UC Berkeley for years for black bloc type marches, from “Black Lives Matter” to anti-war rallies. Anarchists tend to be in high supply in our little neck of the woods, and Berkeley is their rallying cry for their small chaos sprees (I’m not sure exactly what they want, other than the dissolution of the world order). It has left many in our nation with the impression that our university’s students are crazy revolutionaries who want to overthrow the state.

It is a caricature.

There is a trend in the media to demonize students on campus who advocate for certain things as violent thugs, as reactionaries, so pundits hundreds of miles away can yammer on about what a terrible place Berkeley is and how terrible the people who go there must be.

That is not who we are. That is not the real picture of the Cal I know and the Cal you’ve known. It is one that has been fed to us by people who took concepts of Berkeley from five decades ago and warped them into a war of words between two political factions who want to divide and conquer.

Violence is not what Cal stands for. Violence is not what the Golden Bears should be known for. Our Cal family stands for peaceful expression and the Free Speech Movement. That is a right that was expressed early on this Wednesday night before it was hijacked by agitators who do not represent the viewpoints of our university’s student body and our alumni base at large.

I hope that the university will be more proactive going forward in identifying when instigators come on campus and exploit our peaceful protests for their own bizarre purpose. I would say the job they did last night was subpar, given the ensuing damage.

Long after the agitators left, it was Cal students picking up the pieces.

As a loyal Cal alum, I am tired of hearing about how Cal student demonstrations are a pox upon this nation, are inciting violence so the rest of the nation will follow, and the worst that America can bring. So I hope this message and facts from last night’s story can get through to the Cal family at large. This is a time more than ever which calls for discourse, not judgment.

Fiat Lux. Go Bears.

PS: I have received a few emails about how some Cal student demonstrators did not actively abandon the scene when the protest turned violent, seemingly enabling the anarchists to continue ensuing down their wanton course. Students who are planning on protesting in the future, keep this in mind for future events regarding how to protest safely:

Leave the area where others are engaging in illegal activities and acts of violence. Your presence may be interpreted as participating in a riot or illegal group action.
The university came out and made their statement about "it wasn't our kids" after the shit hit the fan. This to me is amazing. Crocodile tears. They weren't condemning anything or supporting the right to express opposing views BEFOREHAND. What happened beforehand was that faculty condemned the visit and advocated not allowing it to take place. Free speech, right. There wasn't any flag waving advocacy for free speech here. And despite the fact that there were clear threats about violence taking place... no one got arrested. So we really don't know who these protesters were. Or were not. Police in riot gear were deployed, because they knew it was coming, they were there and watched the hooligans, and let them get away with it.

There are rumors going around that the PD were told to stand down initially, and weren't called to act until buildings started to be lit on fire.

Don't know if it is true or not, but the videos I have been seeing don't show very many police, or none at all in many of them, so I don't discount it.

I think this was wanted and encouraged by the University and the local politicians.

This isn't the alternative facts thread.

http://www.kion546.com/news/national...ests/304901596

BERKELEY, California (CNN) - Protests that erupted at UC Berkeley ahead of a planned Wednesday appearance by right-wing commentator Milo Yiannopoulos caused $100,000 worth of damage to the campus, the school said Thursday.

The university blamed "150 masked agitators" for the unrest, saying they had come to campus to disturb an otherwise peaceful protest.

Two Berkeley College Republicans "were attacked while conducting an interview" on the campus on Thursday, UC Berkeley also said in a prepared statement. The attackers, who were not affiliated with the university, were taken into custody by UC Berkeley police.

Administrators decided to cancel the Wednesday event about two hours before the Breitbart editor's speech. UC Berkeley said it removed him from campus "amid the violence and destruction of property and out of concern for public safety."

Black-clad protesters wearing masks threw commercial-grade fireworks and rocks at police. Some even hurled Molotov cocktails that ignited fires. They also smashed windows of the student union center on the Berkeley campus where the Yiannopoulos event was to be held.

At least six people were injured. Some were attacked by the agitators -- who are a part of an anarchist group known as the "Black Bloc" that has been causing problems in Oakland for years, said Dan Mogulof, UC Berkeley spokesman.

More than 1,500 protesters had gathered at Sproul Plaza, chanting and holding signs that read: "No safe space for racists" and "This is war."

The violent protesters tore down metal barriers, set fires near the campus bookstore and damaged the construction site of a new dorm. One woman wearing a red Trump hat was pepper sprayed in the face while being interviewed by CNN affiliate KGO. She was able to respond that she was OK after the attack.

As the scene spiraled out of control, university police warned protesters to disperse and issued a lockdown for campus buildings.

"We condemn in the strongest possible terms the violence and unlawful behavior that was on display and deeply regret that those tactics will now overshadow the efforts to engage in legitimate and lawful protest against the performer's presence and perspectives," UC Berkeley said in a statement.

"While Yiannopoulos' views, tactics and rhetoric are profoundly contrary to our own, we are bound by the Constitution, the law, our values and the campus's Principles of Community to enable free expression across the full spectrum of opinion and perspective," it stated.

As police dispersed the crowd from campus, a remaining group of protesters moved into downtown Berkeley and smashed windows at several local banks.

No arrests were made throughout the night.

Yiannopoulos on college speaking tour
Yiannopoulos had been invited to speak by the Berkeley College Republicans. He has been on a college speaking tour and had planned to speak about cultural appropriation on Wednesday.

In a Facebook Live video, Yiannopoulos described what happened as "an expression of political violence."

"I'm just stunned that hundreds of people ... were so threatened by the idea that a conservative speaker might be persuasive, interesting, funny and might take some people with him, they have to shut it down at all costs."

President Donald Trump weighed in on Twitter, suggesting the possibility of cutting federal funds to the public university.

"If U.C. Berkeley does not allow free speech and practices violence on innocent people with a different point of view -- NO FEDERAL FUNDS?" Trump tweeted Thursday morning.

Later, Yiannopoulos posted Trump's tweet to Facebook and proclaimed himself "the catalyst for this change."

"American universities are on notice. The President is watching," he wrote. "The days you could silence conservative and libertarian voices on campus and still expect to collect their tax money are coming to an end."

But some protesters said the Yiannopoulos event wasn't a matter of free speech, because he espouses hate speech.

UC Berkeley said it had prepared security measures following what had happened at Yiannopoulos' previous events. One of his planned speaking engagements at UC Davis was also canceled last month in response to protests.

"Ultimately, and unfortunately, however, it was impossible to maintain order given the level of threat, disruption and organized violence," UC Berkeley said in a statement.

Controversial speech
Most UC Berkeley students who spoke with CNN said they were relieved that Yiannopoulos wasn't able to speak, but this was not how they wanted to accomplish that goal.

One student told CNN that he didn't agree with what happened.

"It's a sad irony in the fact that the Free Speech Movement was founded here and tonight, someone's free speech got shut down. It might have been hateful speech, but it's still his right to speak," said Shivam Patel, a freshmen who stood outside of Sproul Plaza.

The Free Speech Movement started at UC Berkeley in 1964 after students protested en masse when administrators tried to restrict their political activities on campus.

Patel said he supported peaceful protests, but disagreed with the way things turned out on Wednesday.

"It allows people on the right to say, 'Look at all these liberal Berkeley snowflakes. They're intolerant of speech.' I don't think it's productive at all. It does nothing to help this country."
