In a year (or two), he'll have learned the system better and presumably the Jets will be further along in their 40-year rebuilding plan.

Shell shock. David Carr. Tim Couch. Ryan Leaf. Just a few of many guys with monster talent that were put into awful situations early on and could never realize their potential because of it.

I think the difference is, you think the Jets are a good team that's just missing a QB. I see a team with no WR, an average at best OL (including an ancient right side), a below average secondary, decent LBs and a decent DL. Jones and Washington are good (in Washington's case, very good) backs. However, Jones won't be getting 30 carries a game or anything. Teams will stack on Bubby Sanchez and dare him to throw.

In other words, I thought the Jets were a 6-win team at best before this decision, and now they're chancing their "franchise" QB getting shell-shocked for no reason. There's no need for him to be getting killed week 1. He can start getting killed week 8 when there's far less pressure on him.

Shell shock had nothing to do with Ryan Leafs failures. He was basically mentally unstable. I'll give you Carr, but I think Couch had other issues than just playing for a bad team.

That's not quite accurate. They have more holes than just at QB. But it's a far better situation than other rookie QBs have gone into and had success (relative for a rookie qb)

I see what you're saying, but playing in New York is going to have pressure regardless of when he starts. I say get as much experiance as you can. And if you have the mental toughness to get through it, you'll make it. If you don't, you wouldn't have made it anyway.

IMO, by spending a 3rd overall pick and at that kind of money and being in NY, the decision makes sense. The REAL problem that has set them back was getting LORD Favre last season. That would have been the ideal opportunity, again IMO, to get Clemens in the fold and then build around him. The idiots didn't do that though, and instead set themselves yet another 2-3 years back on another QB project.
I have to agree. I mean, I think Sanchez (it sounds weird saying that without a Dirty in front of it but ...) is alright. But, before Flacco had the year he was having everyone was saying the same thing. Except for how big of an arm he's got. Honestly though, if Sanchez has the guts (which I think he does) and can deal with the supremely homosexual New York fan base then he could be alright. Tom Brady was never known for a really strong arm ie: deep passes right? (Yes, it's an actual question.)

I honestly don't remember Brady being mentioned with a "gun". Understandably with his recievers, don't get me wrong. I like Pro's that act/train/play like they're a professional, and that's something Sanchez does.

** PLEASE NOTE that I absolutely hate USC (due to the Notre Dame fan in me) and most of their football products and also not a fan of the Jets. Unless Rex Ryan makes a dumb quote to fuel "our" fire, then I thank the football gods that so cruelly tooka dump on my chest last year.
