April 21 has nothing to do with trading. April 21 is just the last day he can talk to other teams about getting them to sign him to a contract.

He now has until June something or other (21?) to sign his tender or the Pats can reduce his salary to 10% more than he made last year. If that happens, he can sit out until week 10.

There isn't a good reason after Apr 21 not to sign the tender because sign or not, he can't talk to other teams any more.
You are correct and it needed clarification. But as you say there is no good reason for him not to sign the tender on Friday or shortly after.

Butler does not sound stupid enough to play the holdout game. Let's hope that he and the Patriots work something out.
