The GOAT Should Have More 1st Team All Pros Than Rich Gannon

The greatest player in NFL history should have more first-team All-Pros than Rich Gannon. That's all I'm saying.
This statement by Scott Kacsmar set off an entertaining firestorm on twitter that's still raging.

Kacsmar is Football Outsiders. Pianowski is Yahoo Sports. Pianowski calls Kacsmar out. Then the flood gates open.
Patriots Insider, Reddit-Patriots and several other well known sports writers/organizations also get involved. Kacsmar retreats immediately. Funny stuff & great for a laugh. Patriots fans impress with some good comebacks.

Just get to the conclusion, Tom Brady is a fraud.

Oh, it's that attention-starved dummy again. He's so alone on this one he might as well be yelling up a drainpipe in Afghanistan.

Mental illness is serious business and we shouldn't make fun of it.

Great timing. Here is Cowherd's take on Brady's greatest from yesterday. He says Brady is lapping the field. To try to argue he is not the GOAT is like arguing against Gretsky and Jordan. IMO Brady has a more air tight case than even Jordan.

Cowherds always had Brady’s back

Kaka is too dense to understand BB's player acquisition method, in that he doesn't collect individual stars, he builds a team.

I'd bet all of Gannon's All-Pros would trade in that status to play with TFB.

OJ's Glove 11-14-2017 08:18 AM

Of course the Manning rumpswap loves the media-voted awards that only take into account the regular season.

Shocking.

Beaglebay 11-14-2017 08:23 AM

I personally think a statue of Peyton Manning is redundant.

Bobby Orr was the greatest hockey player ever, Gretzky the greatest scorer. Orr did it all, on both ends and completely changed the game into what Gretzky played and exploited offensively.

Cheers

isn't this the twisted logic we have argued about for a long time. He is the GOAT precisely because he has less 1st team all pros. If a qb is surrounded by all pros, he does not need to be the best. Manning for his last SB was a game manager, not a GOAT

I can't give KaKaschmear any credit for any logic, twisted or otherwise. The premise is desperation.

Orr was far and away the best defenseman to ever suit up. He did change the way the game was played from a defense and perspective.

But Gretzky was the most phenomenal player ever.

The numbers are beyond insane.

Tom Brady has a higher indoor passer rating than Manning, and does even when you restrict the latter to his Indy years.

This means that, despite Manning having significantly advantages in both weaponry investment and home/road splits (Brady actually has zero home games in this sample), Tom still grades out as the more efficient passer.

That really is game, set, match.

Just for shits and giggles, though, here are the averages for Manning's 7 first team all-pro seasons.

376/555 - 67.8% comp - 4,458 yards - 8.0 ypa - 37 TDs - 11 INTs

Here are Brady's averages from a cherry picked selection of 6 NON-first time all-pro seasons*:

383/593 - 64.6% comp - 4,629 yards - 7.8 ypa - 34 TDs - 9 INTs

Huge disparity there.

* I bumped up last year's totals to what their full season numbers would have been given 16 games. Considering that Brady has played a virtually the same rate this year, I thought it was fair.

Jaric 11-14-2017 09:48 AM

How does Brady not have more all-pros than Rich Gannon?
