If Yassir Arafat dies in the next few days, what impact will it have on the Middle East?

Lets get one thing clear.
If I didn't answer Spidermans posts... Nobody would.

Maybe someone would have, or maybe not. But if not, it would have died - not a big deal. Sometimes, when trying to generate discussion, you keep trying and see what sticks. I don't understand what the big deal is.

I was simply making a statement.

I guess I am the bad guy....

I am not looking to name anyone the bad guy. I just could not understand why you felt the need to point out that no one else would answer. If you are not interested in a topic, move on.

Because it is true....

Why the animosity?

The same could be said of you....
If it does not interest you then move on.

I would have answered.

Arafat has grown fat off the plight of his people, and so his passing should be greeted with parades and celebrations. However, it is the nature of a power vaccuum that the person most motivated to fill it will be motivated by greed, not idealism. And if by chance that person is motivated by idealism, the possibility of wealth will very likely corrupt him (and yes, I think it is pretty clear that it will be a male).

So, not much.

As an aside: good guy, bad guy, blah, blah, blah. Why are you being an a$$wipe about this, bustah? Respond to a topic, fine, and yes, you have the freedom to say what you want. But there's no reason on earth to be an a$$wipe because you disagree with someone politically, unless its because they are voting to dance on your mother with golf spikes or something. Get a grip, take a break if you need one, and (this is just a suggestion) put Spidey on ignore for awhile, and let it go.

It's pissing YOU off more than anyone else, but it's definately a nuisance to me to wade through pages of a pissing contest to read a post that's reasonably on-topic.

No personal animosity here, just annoyance at what is happening and wanting it to go away. Of course, I'm not a moderator and so I don't have to edit myself as much as 'Taker. So I'm going to call it like I see it. Spidey went away for awhile, and when he came back, you got right back on him like he was your private obnoxious carosel. Leave it alone. Disagree all you want, but leave the personal garbage outside.

No animosity here. I enjoy your posts most of the time. If you read animosity in my post, my apologies.

I do move on when a topic does not interest me, and it appears you don't understand my point in this thread, so I will quit now.

Cheers.

You are saying not to answer posts that interest me?
I answered the post honestly...
I said that his wife wanted to keep the money.... and that if I didn't answer probably no one would answer. If it was not for my honest answers you or Undertaker wouldn't have taken part in this thread. Spiderman must owe me something for that?

If you don't want to read a pissing contest then why bother.

Some would say you are an asswipe for saying I am an asswipe. Asswipe.

BTW- How's the sister thing going?

I plan on making a reply tonight. You may have noticed that it took a couple days for replies to come back to townes post: " explain some things to me (http://www.patriotsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7951)". I think it was premature for you to have jumped to the conclusion you did.

Whats the problem?

There were no WMD in Iraq. There were no nukes. It has been proven by Bush's own man. They have found not a scrap of WMD or nukes?

Bush made the wrong decision because he based his decision on false information by his own people. He said that he talked to God and that God told him to invade... I did not make that up. It was in his own words. How can you refute that?
He didn't have a clue what was going on there and his advisors gave him bad info.

Perhaps he should have left the inspectors in Iraq so they could verify that there were no WMD?

Instead of invading and finding out later after many American deaths that there were no WMD.

There are no Bills trolls around so if I have to... I'll battle all of you.

This isn't about that. The second was just you being a pissant. And I would have answered regardless, because the Arafat situation is of some interest to me.

Some would say you are an asswipe for saying I am an asswipe. Asswipe. Some would. And they'd be right, but for completely different reasons. In any case, being an asswipe is totally different from simply calling someone on it.

BTW- How's the sister thing going? [/B]Pretty good, thanks. My ex has commented on a couple of things on this board from time to time, so she's made a habit of popping in, I think.

I wonder what impact this will have on the Palenstinian Movement. Do you think there's a possibility that someone takes control who really seeks peace? Unfortunately, I think we may end up with someone far worse then Arafat. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Glad to hear the "switch" is going well. I pulled that off in college with roommates, but SISTERS is on a whole other level.

You say pissant... I say I gave an honest answer.
Who is to decide?

The Arafat thread has been up since 10:08 this morning.

Three people have been in here. The three people have been complaining about my behavior.

Coincidence? no....

I believe that if he does expire, he has to be buried within 24 hours, per Islamic law. Where exactly is he to be buried? I'll bet he picked a nice spot to piss off just about everyone.

If you look on the other side, at the Israeli's, they have a hardliner to lock horns with Arafat. With one eliminated, hopefully the Palestinians will elect a moderate to speed up this peace process.

I found this on a Yahoo news article, in case anyone was interested.

Source (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=514&e=2&u=/ap/20041109/ap_on_re_mi_ea/arafat_17)

Palestinian leaders, meanwhile, made preparations for Arafat's eventual death, deciding that he will be buried at the West Bank headquarters, Deputy Parliament Speaker Hassan Khreishe told The Associated Press. Israel did not immediately rule out the idea.

"We formed a committee to handle Arafat's burial in the event of his death, and the burial will be in the Muqata," Khreishe said, referring the Ramallah headquarters by its Arabic name.

The sandbagged compound, a target of frequent Israeli raids, is to be turned into shrine, and a mosque will be built there, Palestinian officials said.

Israel has ruled out a burial in Jerusalem or the city's West Bank suburb of Abu Dis. Asked about the Palestinians' decision, Asaf Shariv, a top aide to Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon (news - web sites), said: "The prime minister said, `Not in Jerusalem and not in Abu Dis.' We haven't discussed Ramallah yet. We will discuss it and decide."

There you go. Build a mosque where he'll be buried, and they will follow. I hate to say it, but if they build that, you can almost guarantee the Israeli army bombing it.

It would be hard to imagine that the Palestinians could do any worse than Arafat, though I suppose anything is possible. Arafat has been about as corrupt and useless as any Arab leader in recent history. I can't think of anything positive he has done fo the Palestinians. Depending on whose estimates you believe, Arafat has embezzled upwards of 1 Billion dollars in aid money that was supposed to go to the Palestinians during his reign. One of the few things Clinton really tried to do was to broker a deal between Israel and the Palestinians. Arafat showed up in Washington to shake hands and say he'd agreed, but in true Arafat fashion he stiffed Clinton, just like everyone else.

As for what will come next, a lot depends on his replacement. I think Bush will be eager to try to make a deal if someone even halfway competant is selected. Of course if the Palestinians pick some bozo from Hammas or something like that, it will probably be more of the same (ie. nothing) for the Palestinians.

Btw, I'm really curious to see how much of his savings (if any of it) will make it back to the Palestinians, or if his wife in France will keep it all.

Arafat Shocked and Dismayed

Ron Borges
Netherworld Times Correspondent

HADES - Yasser Arafat expressed shock and confusion after finding out that he did not go to heaven for his many years of killing "infidels". Instead he ended up in the fiery abyss. Arafat, in a state of denial, was seen screaming, "Where the hell are my 72 Virgins???" The lord of darkness laughed as he replied, "You're in the right place, just keep looking. I know there's some hotties here some place."
