I thought about waiting to see if anybody would pick this up. But I wanted to squash it before it has a chance of growing legs. Rumor has it, Jerry Rice wants out of Oakland.
Now, I know Belichick is smarter than to trade for such an over the hill player, But if he's released.... I know its a streach But
I'm thinking Detrick Ward... JJ Stokes... and now this Kasper kid.
Am I being Naive?

Rice is done and would be nothing more than a tad upgrade over Brown at this point in thier career. Not worth it IMO...

"nothing more than a tad upgrade over Brown"? Troy Brown? Only a little bit better than Troy Brown??
What would be the cost? Why not pick him up?

If we could pick him up at the right price, I don't think it's a bad idea. He would be a great mentor to our young receivers and he could add another Super Bowl ring to his collection. It's a win/win!

Like I said, I wouldn't trade anything for him. But if the radiers released him I think he could join the team in the mold of D. Ward or JJ Stokes. But Hes not interested in anything like that. He wants to contribute. And those days are behind him. ITs his loker room presense that would be the most useful. not his waning talent.

Well, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Jerry Rice would come to the Patriots, if they want him. It's the paradise of the league now.
What effective role would he play? Would money hold it up? The Patriots appear to have a problem at the moment with wide-out depth.
I'll bet the Raiders would take a 4th or 5th-rounder for him.

That's probably what it will take to get him because if he gets waived... there is no way he gets past Blondie and the Bucs.

Sure there is, It depends on wavier order.
But I think it's a moot point. I don't think the Pats want him anyway.

Aquiring Jerry right would complete the "Two degrees of Joe Montanna" for Tom Brady. A bit spookie at that.

Jerry Rice is not eligible for the waiver wire. I can't find the exact eligibility requirements, but I don't believe it applies to full veterans, so if Rice is cut, he is free to sign with whomever he wants.
He could provide quality depth with all the WRs being injured on the Pats, but I would not trade more than a 7th.

So then how did Deion Sanders get stuck in the waiver wire when the Redskins released him 2 years ago?

Fifi has a jones for the ball, and that matters more than winning does to him at this point. It's a shame, because he is the greatest WR to ever play the game, but his whining while the Raiders are in the hunt for a play-off spot is pathetic. Hopefully he catches on with the same team that signs jeff george, and they can make beautiful stats together.
