I want to leave this up for a few days....talk about the pros and cons. Try not to turn this thread into a slugfest though ;)

I would like to make it clear though that all other Non Football Talk will still be welcome in the main forum. This is poll is just to help determine the future of political talk.

I think the main issue is that no one starts throwing political stuff into football threads, which everyone has respected so far. One good thing about having the board as it is is that you get a sense of which topics are most active when they're all on the same page.

If there was an all politics forum, I would enjoy that, but it would probably turn out that people would take the gloves off more in there and if anything, it would be more argumentative.

I'll go along with the seperate forum, though I do not think it will get a lot of action.

Let's give it a rip, I guess.

I can't vote in a poll with an egregious spelling error.

why have a seperate forum? If you don't like what you see, don't open that thread.

Why clutter things up anymore than they have to be?

thats just my opinion

How about a desperate thread for politics?

Thomas,

I apologize from the bottom of my heart for my unforgivable spelling error.

Hopefully, my heartfelt apology and sincere promise to use spell checker henceforth will smooth things over and convince you to remain a critical asset of the forum, as you have been since your arrival.

I am both challenged and refreshed by your viewpoint, as always.

Sincerely,
Hawg73

The constellation study group convenes Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 8PM EST. Bring your number two pencil and dictionary.

The punctuation police will be in attendance (The spelling nazis have been suspended due to religious intolerance).

Let me know when you're going to discuss Orion.

I think you should have a separate off topic forum. I hate discussing politics on a message board, for a variety of reasons, and as much as I would like to avoid it completely, it's like seeing a train wreck...you just have to look...and comment.:banghead:

The way I see it fellas, the Planet is an extension of the Gillette stadium parking lot. A place where any conversation is tolerable as long as your wearing your Patriots Starter Jacket and have a beer in your hand.

I vote "separate thread" in 2004.

There is no way we would have a completely seperate ( :Fart: ) forum for all off-topic stuff if that's what you meant.

Maybe down the road apiece it may become necessary, but for now we will continue to mix topics on the main forum until it becomes necessary to change. Politics might be another matter, but most people here seem to like the OT stuff just fine.

Forum growth will dictate how that stuff pans out in the future, but for now it hasn't been a problem at all.

Although I do participate in off topic threads, I don't come here to talk about music, politics, or movies. All I was saying was that if you're going to separate politics from the mix, why not just have a "Pats Talk" Forum and an "Off Topic" forum.

It matters little to me, I was just contributing my 2 cents.

Well, thats what this thread was for after all Spidey :) We appreciate any input we get because as we have said before, this board is ultimately run by its members...

That being said, BKC crystallized The Planet pretty well when he said "The Planet is an extension of the Gillette stadium parking lot. A place where any conversation is tolerable as long as your wearing your Patriots Starter Jacket and have a beer in your hand." To me, that is EXACTLY what PatriotsPlanet is, its what attracted me here, got me to delurk, and made me want to help protect it. Its a bar atmosphere for Pats Fans...

That's one of the things that make us different from the other Patriots Bulletin Boards, and its a formula that has worked very well for our mothership - ChiefsPlanet.

My only idea here was that politics can be very divisive, and I thought it MIGHT make sense to sepArate them out a little bit with this being an election year and all. It may be that the football talk will overtake most of everything else, and the main board won't be cluttered with politics and we will not need a sepArate forum. That is my hope...but I wanted to post this here and see what the membership thought.

We'll probably just keep an eye on it for now, and if the need arises, open a new forum, or push all politics into a single thread.

I see what you are saying, I have many friends on both sides of the political spectrum, that is one reason I hate discussing politics on message boards, it's too impersonal, and IMO causes people to get nasty at times. I just hope that people can disagree politically and not take it personally. I don't...:D

Do people talk about politics in the parking lot at Gillette Stadium? I have never actually been to Foxboro, but I have seen people "tailgating" at the Boston Cannons game. I kind of imagine the conversations would be limited to "where did you buy that grill?" and "nice looking sausage!"

Maybe you should go to Gillette sometime, though you are probably looking for trouble if you complement someone else's "sausage." :p

Okay, based on the poll results here and other feedback we have recieved, we are going to try a sepArate political forum. You guys know the routine - try to keep it civil. Its highly doubtful that anyone is going to change anyone else's mind. Don't let political animousity bleed onto the main forum and especially into football topics.

All future political topics should go into this forum...everything else - football related or not - should stay in the main forum.
