There hasn't been much political talk on here, and I don't know if that's good or bad. But it is the offseason, and I saw this quote from Hillary
"Many of you are well enough off that ... the tax cuts may have helped you," Sen. Clinton said. "We're saying that for America to get back on track, we're probably going to cut that short and not give it to you. We're going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good." source (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/news/archive/2004/06/28/politics2039EDT0165.DTL&type=printable)
The following is all IMHO -
She makes some asinine assumptions here. First, that America is not on track (presumably the economy as she is talking about taxes). That is certainly debatable, but I will leave it to those who know more about economic recovery than me.
Second she says that she is not going to GIVE us our own money. Excuse me? A tax cut is GIVING ME money? I don't think so. Its all MY money to begin with. That is the problem with some left wing politicians. They don't see it as money I earned, but THEIR money, and THEY decide what is best for everyone and how much money to GIVE to me.
(BTW, I am not right wing either, so don't read this as a partisan rant)
Next she is going to take things away from us for the common good...what is she, freakin' Robin Hood? I'd like to know what her idea of the "common good." is. I seriously doubt that anything she does with MY money would do more common good than what I could do with it.
Oh well. I guess I'll just enjoy the ride in this hand-basket ;)

The "common good"???
Reminds me of reading Karl Marx in college...I'm not sure if I like her choice of words.
Also, since when is it "right wing" to want to know where your money is going, and WHY so much of it is needed???
I'm no economics wiz either, but I've always felt that the higher taxes on the rich gimmick was complete BS. The only people hurt by higher taxes are the middle class. We bear all the burden. Rich people have rich accountants who figure out ways to avoid them having to pay there fair share.

Its not. I just didn't want to be pigeon-holed as a right winger as I was criticizing a left wing politician.

Sorry, I think that came across the wrong way, I didn't mean that as a dig towards you...It just seems like 20 years ago everyone was for lower taxes, now all the sudden George Bush proposes tax cuts and he is a "right wing radical neo-con" AHHHH!!!
It's shocking to me that someone like Hillary can't see all the government waste that exists, and all of the unnecessary bureaucracy in the country, instead she acts like the government is a well oiled machine that needs more money from us in order to function better....that's scary!!!

I think she feels that we are all too stupid to be able to spend our money wisely. We should be greatful to have wise people like Hillary, to relieve us of that burden. After all, they know what's good for us, better than we do.

VICE PRESIDENT HILLARY; SPECULATION INTENSIFIES IN WASHINGTON
Official Washington and the entire press corps will be rocked when Hillary Rodham Clinton is picked as Kerry's VP and a massive love fest will begin!
So predicts a top Washington insider, who spoke to the DRUDGE REPORT on condition he not be named.
"All the signs point in her direction," said the insider, one of the most influential and well-placed in the nation's capital. "It is the solution to every Kerry problem."
"There are three issues that this campaign will be decided on-- national security, health care, and the economy, not necessarily in that order."
"Kerry believes that no one is better on national security than he is, he served in Vietnam after all, so he has that covered and the suggestion that he needs to strengthen the ticket with someone who has national security credentials is dismissed as foolish."
The insider continues: "The Democrats feel like health care is the domestic issue. But how to make it the dominant topic of conversation-- break through war and terrorism? Hillary Clinton. She catapults it out front with her commission. She tried to provide health care before and the Republicans in congress attacked her and her husband and used a bunch of scandals dirty tricks to stop it, we know they are scandals dirty tricks because the former president book says so. So now you have the number two person on the ticket who is a 'health care expert' and what will Republicans do? Attack on health care pointing to her commission saying that it was government medicine. Her response-- it wasn't, and the Republicans are a bunch of dirty tricksters, "Liars and Crooks," as Kerry calls them, and its been too long and Democrats wont let the Republicans do it to them again. By the way, it puts prescription drugs on the back burner, the republicans health care ace. You will have a fully engaged national debate on health care from now until the election."
"The Democrats economic plan is to say Bush sucks, it's never enough, we must get back to the Clinton Era when 22 million jobs were created. You can't do much better at making that point then-- Kerry/Clinton 2004.
"But what about impeachment and Monica -- wont that overshadow her being picked? It' now been covered in the book. Not only that, but she is a women scorned who has dealt with what so many American women deal with and stuck it out to keep her family together. And Whitewater? It's in the book. Vince Foster? Book. Billing records, White House travel Office? Book, book. All have been covered. All Republican slime tactics.
"Why would Kerry make such a public spectacle about trying to get John Mccain, wont whoever you pick be considered a second choice. Not if it is Hillary!
"There are differences of opinion about how this election will be won but one school says its all about the base. Republicans are bumping up against the ceiling with support from their base and Democrats are sitting on the floor. This would change that.
"Official Washington and national media will fall in love with the idea immediately letting Kerry/Clinton dominate the news through July and up to the Republican convention. She will say she is doing it for the good of the country. I am convinced this is going to happen."
"But what Hillary about having to wait to run for president? If Bush wins then she is the nominee for 2008 because it will be all Kerry's fault. If she wins she is the first woman VP of the United States, which would help her become the first woman president of the U.S. It would be historic in its own right and change the nature of politics in this country, and mark her place in the history books for ever-- a different history than her husbands."

I hate to jump into a political thread and probably won't get much more involved than this one post, but - that being said:
Ain't never going to happen for Hillary.
Let me clarify...
She might get nominated and be on Kerry's ticket - but she'll never be on a winning ticket - for VP or President. No way. I hope Vegas has betting open for this.
I don't know much about Kerry seeing as I live in MN. Do you guys in the New England area think he'd pick her as a running mate? If he does, it'll make my choice much easier come election day.

I certainly wouldn't put it past him. Although, I do see Hillary quite differently from Kerry (or her husband), in that I think Hillary actually does believe most of the stuff she says.
If Kerry does pick her, I may actually consider writing a check to the Bush campaign.

If Kerry does pick her - I don't think that your check will be necessary. (They'd probably still appreciate it though :D ).
Regarding Kerry - I'm interested to see what he has to say other than the flashpoints we see currently on the news (and the he-said she-said political ads). I seriously don't know jack about the guy.

I think this would be stupid on Kerry's part, because he wouldn't pick up any additional voters. People who would vote for Hillary, are already voting for Kerry.
I do however love the quote about "Nobody's better on National Security because he 'served in Vietnam'". That's like saying Lawrence Taylor is qualified to be a head coach because he "played the game".
I'm not comparing Kerry to Taylor, but you get the point...

If that money means the war is being fought OVERSEAS and NOT on the street of New York, then I say it money well spent.
As far as the Halliburton comment, what chapter of the "win an argument against a Republican" handbook is that in. I'm so sick of hearing stupid comments about Halliburton.
I can picture the Halliburton executives now sitting in there Lair with Dr. Evil plotting their take over the world.

That's true - wars aren't free. It's also really tough for me to cast 'blame' for this war on anyone in our country. I'm certainly not going to blame Halliburton.

Secondly, I wanna know who's coming down to training camp when it opens July 29th at 3 PM. Anybody ??

If you are Saddam Hussein, then yes it was an invasion.
If you are a civilized Iraqi I suppose you consider it a revolution with outside help.
If you are a member of the UN, then you should consider it an enforcement of your many resolutions.

See? This is the kind of partisan thing I was trying to avoid. No where did I mention Bush in my post. This thread had nothing to do with him. It was about Hillary. Defending someone's comments by attacking someone else who is on other side of the isle is a poor defense.
I would like to be at training camp, but I never seem to get the time. :)

LOL - nice two part question.
Ok - if you insist (I don't necessarily agree with you), I will re-state my position just to speed things along: Invasions aren't free.
For the second part - I wish to hell that I could come for training camp - but can't justify the travel time. :(
Hope you guys have fun....

Amazing how these political worms can turn UT - I wouldn't worry too much about it - it's an election year and bound to happen.
People just need to keep in mind that politics are politics and leave it at the door when the football starts. I surely will.

Definately....I don't take it personally. But I DO get sick of political threads that turn into a right vs left thing. As I said in my post, I do not consider myself right wing either. I was just commenting on what I thought were absurd comments by Hillary. Had nothing to do with Bush or his cronies. ;)

Nah, its no big deal. I'm wouldn't get upset over it and delete the thread or anything ;) Politics are touchy to many people, and if this thread continues to go into a right vs left thing, that's ok, threads evolve. I was just defending my position by wondering what Bush had to do with it.
Threads have a life of their own. I wouldn't want to stifle that.

Don't worry about training camp being crowded. I believe it's only open for a week or so until they go into mostly "stealth" mode.... It's very fan friendly, I remember being quite surprised when they opened the doors to Gillette for rest room use....For me it's a great daytime 45 mile motorcycle ride, a couple beers watching pratice followed by fried clams at the Red Wing.
