http://boston.barstoolsports.com/random-thoughts/steve-deossie-can-take-the-first-train-to-hell/

I was going to take some time off from posting because I am hurting real bad today. Been watching "Alcatraz" episodes to take my mind off things...

But on my first foray onto the net I come across this video and now I'm all fired up again! Steve DeOssie needs to get the heck out of the New England Sports scene after this - I can take him rooting for the Giants because of his son and all, I can even take him taking some quiet satisfaction in it (even at the expense of his bread-and-butter i.e. the Pats), but this is too much!

I will now and forever change the radio station or tv channel if any Patriots-related broadcast has this man on as a guest. We need to run this guy out of town - he loves NY so much, let him go land a gig covering them.

Unbelievable - salt in the wound poured on by a guy who makes his living off this team. I can't take it.

PS - because I don't see myself posting that much for a bit. Not mad at the Pats or players, they played hard and I know they wanted it bad, just dissapointed for them and especially for Bob Kraft. I thought this was going to happen for him in this season dedicated to Myra. Now we will always have this monkey on our back named Eli and that really, really sucks. I am bumming huge - but I know have abn outlet for all of my frustration and emotion - Steve DeOssie. The man has every right to feel how he feels, but I won't tolerate him cashing a paycheck on the backs of our guys and then kicking them when they're at their lowest. Not for one second.

EDIT: Also, every other NE sports media member who really loves this team and appreciates the fact that they get paid because of this team and are real fans of the team as well as reporters and broadcasters - the Steve Burton's and Mike Holley's and Zolaks and Santos - these guys need to stand up and say - nope - don't want anything to do with him. Not on our show!

Wow I liked his insight, but he's dead too me..Goto NY you fvcking fat fvck two face bastard....

Its ok to be happy that your Son won,but that behavior proves he's a douchebag...
What if he got his hands on a Pats playbook? or gave the Giants some inside info? Could this happen or is he out of the Patriot loop?

He sounds drunk, but he wouldn't be the first guy losing a job for getting drunk and saying something stupid.

He should be ostracized by fans just as Tomasse was, and Pats fans should boycott whoever is paying him in the New England sports media.

Why do we New England sports fans have to put up with such horrendous sports media?

Yeah and let's not forget Steve is involved in a pre and post-game tailgate business in Foxboro as well as ownership of Fred & Steve's Steakhouse at Twin River's casino in Lincoln, Rhode Island. He makes his money off of this team and its fans - NY'ers aren't attending his tailgate and they're not driving to his steakhouse - New Englanders are!

And this is how he does us!??!

In his heart of hearts he's a Giant!??!? Well, let New Yorkers pad his wallet then - never again a New Englander! He's done here!

You know, when I saw him on the last episode of "Patriots all access" it almost felt like we had a "spy in the Midst" because of what he does, he`s able to get "inside" information like how Gronk was really doing and forward that information to his son, who would do the same to get an advantage.

2 losses in a row to the Giants in the SB, who knows what info was gathered? Hey, the rest of the world thinks the Pats do these things, why can`t we think it?

The guy's a long-time Giant and won a ring there. Not surprised that's where his heart lies. However, he's ALWAYS been a huge windbag and a primary example of why WEEI has sucked for so long.

Thrilled to see another station come to he table and force WEEI into a station-wide douching.

Has the Big Show addressed this red faced fvck's comments or are they pretending it didn't happen?

It's a shame, I always liked that bastard, but I'm done with him.

I've never cared for him. He's the typical bully drunk. He wasn't even part of his kid's life until he started getting good at football.

Last night after the game, I tuned into "5th Quarter" for a bit a healing and I'm face with suck up Steve Burton yucking it up with DeOssie and his son. Good for his son. But I don't need to hear/see him celebrating on a Pats post game show. And there's Burton with that idiotic grin just "Wow"'ing continuously. Then the kids starts whooping it up on camera.

I changed the channel and never went back.

Wait, you guys have a Giants fan running your post game shows?

WTF?

He's a local media guy - played as an LB the Giants and Pats as well as Jets and Cowboys. He's on several local radio and tv programs. His son plays for the Giants, and obviously, I can understand rooting for your son - even against the team which is the source of your income by nature of its very existance. That I get.

But this bullshit on the video - rubbing our faces in it - mocking his fellow analysts for the optimism - kissing Giants fans asses even though its Pats fans that line his pockets....

...this we cannot forgive. He was a little too giddy for my taste in 07, but this is another level - this is an unpardonable sin.

We need this guy blacklisted in NE until no one will put him on the air until he returns "home" to NY. When he's on - change the channel, flip the station - this is an all out boycott of everything DeOssie.

I, for one, am fully convinced that ALL teams cheat. The Pats just got sloppy and were caught. But I fully believe this. I mean - really? This 18-0 juggernaut suddenly can't score more than 14 points? It's like Warner complaining about the Pats in 2002 - they suddenly couldn't score and now neither can the Pats. I for one believe there was cheating - just can't prove it.

Not that league would do anything even if they were discovered. But perhaps it would take some of the hate away from the Pats.

I'd like, no love, nothing more than to have Kraft calmly walk up to him, shake his hand, give him his final check, and tell him "The Patriots have decided to go in a different direction. Thank you for your services."

He doesn't get paid by Kraft or the Patriots. As an alalyst he gets paid by WBZ, Comcast, and WEEI. He also makes his money off of his tailgate business and restaurant.

That said, it is clear that WEEI is going to attempt to push this aside and hope fans forget about it. They already had him on - giving him an opportunity to "explain himself". It was weak.

I wrote to the Programming director and its clear WEEI will stick by him. Major brush-off from him. Will be contacting CSNNE and WBZ next.

We, as fans, need to let these entities know that we will not support them or their sponsors if they maintain their relationships with DeOssie. And of course his steakhouse and tailgate need to be avoided as well.

There is a 'fraternity' among most of these guys. Ordway and Callahan have already been very vocal in supporting him. That said some guys "get it" - Holley called him a traitor and John Dennis was very critical as well.

But ultimately its the fans who will decide how this plays out. Clearly the media who employ him are counting on our collective short memories. We need to let them know we won't be forgetting this anytime soon and avoid supporting those businesses which continue to support him. We ultimately drive his income - by listening and watching, and utilizing the sponsors of the programs. That's why, in my mind, the betrayal is so henious. We as fans have allowed him every opportunity he currently enjoys - and for this we are mocked and belittled.

DeOssie has said it's been a 'struggle' for him here in New England.

He hasn't seen anything yet.

That's the whole point of this thread and the Facebook page. I'd think even less of him if he didn't support his son.

It's the trashing of the organization, the region and the fans which has people ticked off.

This just speaks to how stupid this idiot is. Do you think any of the ex-Patriot media members such as Bruschi, Harrison, McGinest, etc would attend a Pats rally and trash the opponents fans? They'd simply decline to attend and walk away.

True dat.

What EEI and others are counting on is this being forgotten.

This helps keep the issue alive and incites even more passion among the fan base regarding it.

We've got to keep the pressure on.

In my commications with EEI, I've suggested that this is the prefect opportunity to ditch DeOssie and bring back real fan Pete Shephard. It's a perfect opportunity - Pete probably has burned too many bridges, but if enough fans vocalize this, it may force their hand. With the HUB as an alternate option we can put EEI on the ropes.

LOL....My thought exactly. There are many ex-NFL'ers (and ex-Pats) who can provide great analysis. I was never a Shepard fan.

One more analogy....Gresh and Zo on 98.5. Both grew up big Pitt fans. I have no doubt that Gresh still is. Love him or hate him, he has never let that interfere with being able to provide objective analysis. Zo has played for other teams besides the Pats. But he moved back to this area to raise his family. He is a New Englander.

If you listen to Zo on the sidelines during game broadcast it's evident from his excitement that he is a real fan.

I don't mind objectivity - it has it's place in the national media.

But I've always felt local media guys should be fans as well - not to slant their views, but to give us the insights fans are looking for - you can't relate to fans if your not one yourself. Also, in a broadcast I enjoy hearing the excitement come through - I call this "The Tommy Heinsohn Effect" and I think it adds a lot to a broadcast or even a commentary. This is why Gil & Gino are so great.

Other local football guys I like and consider "real fans" are Gary Tanguay, Mike Holley, Steve Burton, Bob Neumeier, and Tom Curran. Obviously former players like Tro and Ty as well, but I put those guys in a different category altogether.

He could have worn his son's jersey and waved a Giants pennant during the game and I wouldn't have cared.

But occupational discretion would have advised more intelligent people that participating in this kind of pep rally to the degree with which he did may not be the best career move.

Why is that so hard for the WEEI rank and file to understand? Just perpetuates my "blowhard" sentiment about the majority of personalities that are featured on that station.

You would almost think Buckley is also against Deossie, cause all he did was add major fuel to the fire. Serious? Mocking Patriots fans for being angry, while basically stating we are just so stupid we needed this as an outlet for our anger?Hardly, many of us are very rational, disappointed, but quite rational.

They both sound like 2 peas in a pod, come from the same mold, and both biting the hands that feed them..Who`s not the smart ones here and are over re-acting to a situation?

Just another example of how bad the Media is these days. No wonder I don`t watch, listen to or read 99% of it.

This could be a cleverly disguised attempt to hurt DeOssie.

Motive is clear - DeOssie used to make a lot of homophobic references/jokes on The Big Show back in the day. Hmmm.....

Because they are the most arrogant bunch of muthafvckers to walk the face of the planet. (not this planet, the real one).

If i could remove their numbers from my radio dial I would.

I'm not a huge fan of the Sports Hub but I listen from time to time (I prefer national sports radio stations like Mike and Mike and the NFL Network on Sirius), but I thank God they exist and are putting EIEIO where they rightfully belong, at the bottom of the ratings.

I just had to check out the end of Tailgate tonight to see if DeOssie would acknowledge the rally.

He did - defiantly an unapologetically. Basically made it sound as if people are upset at the picking of the Giants, not the other stuff. Oh that, and that the Pats lost. The other stuff by the way, was conveniantly left out when the showed a snippet of the video.

It wasn't about the pcik idiot! It was about trashing the fanbase the supports you! Struggle with that!

And of course Smerlas adamantly defended Steve.

What a joke...

EDIT: Last time I watch tailgate, btw.

Alot of anger for DeOssie and weei..

If you REALLY want anything to change....

Listen to weei, and write down the sponsor's.......
E-mail the Sponsor's.
You will NOT buy their product as long as "Mr NY" is still employed by WEEI.

If you as a business, advertise on weei after what DeOssie said you obviously share his lack of commitment to the local community,

I being part of the local community chose to take my business elsewhere!

Bruce Allen from www.bostonsportsmedia.com has this spot on opinion of DeOssie and Buckley's column:

http://www.bostonsportsmedia.com/2012/02/bruins-trounced-by-sabres#idc-container

Nothing like insulting hyperbole to start off a column.

As usual, Steve Buckley has no clue.

No one is mad or upset that DeOssie feels a loyalty to the New York Giants, given that his greatest professional success came there, and his son currently plays for the franchise. It’s only natural and fitting that DeOssie would feel that loyalty.

What people have an issue with is how he talked at the pep rally, and the manner in which he talked about his colleagues and Patriots fans – as if they were all stupid. He also inferred that life is very difficult for him in Patriots country – even though he has made a nice post-playing-days career here in New England as a radio and TV personality, analyzing the Patriots, and with his restaurant and other ventures with Fred Smerlas which all depend on the loyalty of Patriots fans.

People don’t enjoy it when someone implies to others that they are stupid. People don’t like it when the appearance is that someone has put up a front to appease them for many years when in reality that person loathes them and has no affection or loyalty to them at all, and when given the chance, talks bad about them to others. His explanation of himself on WEEI was clumsy and unapologetic.

That’s what it boils down to.

If Steve Buckley really believes that people are angry at Steve DeOssie because he is simply loyal to the Giants, then he is the one who couldn’t-win-a-battle-of-wits-with-a-Pepsi-machine and deserves to be the laughingstock of America.

I thought the same thing myself. But looking alittle more closely at it, the write up doesn't mention the whole Pep rally at all. It's basing it on the merits of his analysis by and large.

That said, I've voted twice, once on each browser I use.

DeOssie was fired from WBZ's Fifth Quarter show last week. EEI has to be next.

I don't blame him for cheering his son, it's his disrespectful attitude to the Patriots and the fans that were over the top.

:whip2:

Steve DeOssie is no longer a part of “The Fifth Quarter” or any of Channel 4’s other sports coverage, with former Patriots tight end Christian Fauria having taken over the role. DeOssie is continuing to contribute to WEEI and Comcast SportsNet New England. You’ll recall that DeOssie, who played in both New England and New York and whose son Zac is a current Giant, was belted with backlash in February after he spoke at a Giants pep rally before Super Bowl XLVI against the Patriots. “I’m a Giant in my heart, I’m so glad my son’s a New York Giant,’’ he said in his speech. “I struggle sometimes up in New England, but I know I’ve got a home in New York. I love you guys.’’

Then you would have enjoyed him tonight. He and squeaky had Steve "psycho" Lyons on from LA where he does broadcasting for the Dodgers. After playing nice for 10 minutes they hung up and he and Tony ripped the dude for another 10 for being a pussy, but neither one of the He-men mentioned it when he was on the line.

Then he kept saying Deion Branch left Foxboro in 2002 and he was gone for "10 years".

It must be killing Mazz to work for a station that broadcasts the team he detests with every fibre of his being. He denies that, but it's totally true. He is forced to be diplomatic about it or he'll get his ass fired. Kind of funny.

For some reason every time some caller wants to talk about the Pats the hosts of every show in town seem to deflate, like "oh, crap. I'd rather talk about Josh Beckett playing golf." They can't do that, but that's how it sounds.

The ratings completely depend on the season. 98.5 does better in the fall and winter (Pats/Bruins), EEI tends to do better in spring and summer (Sox).

The morning has been going to 98.5, midday goes to 98.5 and drive home goes to EEI. Overnight and weekends go to EEI But even those tend to flip back and forth from quarter to quarter.

I'm a 98.5 listener. I have it on all day. Since 98.5 went on the air, the last time that I tuned into EEI was because I accidentally hit an old preset button on the radio.

I've said it many times. It's great to have the options because until 98.5 came on, I was forced to listen to ESPN radio (that's how much I had grown to hate EEI).

I can not listen to either station when the topic is the red sox. Especially when they are taking calls on the sox. These callers always feel the need to say they are die hard fans and that they watch every inning so on and so forth, then proceed to suggest some moronic thing the sox should do. It drives me insane.
