I am not one to watch college football as a norm but when it comes to college basketball yeah I am a Duke fan
I know majority of people here are haters but honestly don't care
I have gotten use to the hate for my New England Patriots and yes I have gotten use to the hate for my Blue Devils. I live for it, the more the hate the better we do
We in this state have been blessed to have two incredible coaches one in Dean Smith and Coach K.
Anyone who has any love for the game I would like to think would respect both men.
What they have done for their programs is phenomenal. Not to mention the number of young men who have gone on to the NBA.
Coach K just passed Dean Smith and is just 22 wins away from the leader in B.Knight.
Coach K has also lead the US to a gold in the 2008 Olympics. He is as down to earth person as you will ever meet. and his knowledge is wide spread
If you love Coach Belichick then I would think you would respect the shear brilliance of Coach K what he is accomplishing with his skill and talent and pure genius is amazing.

Like Duke, like Coach K. Not a "dukie" or even a fan, but I like and respect the program. Having coached youth and HS ball, I respect the hell out of his X's and O's, his ability to reach his kids, and the respect he commands.

I lived in Durham for a year at one point, really liked it there. Ended up being a Duke basketball fan even though I was working at UNC lol. Quite a rivalry in the triangle there with Duke, UNC and NC State so close to each other.
Coach K always seemed like a nice guy and very appreciative of his position there. I remember pro teams going after him a few times and he's got it so made where he is he never showed much interest in any of those gigs. It is good to be king of all you survey, and that's his status in Duke-land.

I don't hate Duke.
I'm simply a fan of UCONN (I went there and still live in CT).
I have fond memories of some Final Four games against Duke :coffee:

My opinion is that Coach K is tremendous.To do the things he has done at Duke are simply amazing. I think Duke ranks #9 among top academic schools. Very tough admission standards so he can't just grab any & all top recruits. Sure he has had some very good college talent but his guys usually go on to have average NBA careers if one at all.The man just knows how to communicate with players. That was very evident when he coached the NBA players in the Olympics. Those players are on record as to how much the enjoyed playing for Coach K.

Shit. Agreeing with you on college sports makes me feel dirty. I went to the UNC/Michigan State natty 'ship game in 09. The salty tears of Sparty tasted oh so good. I am forever indebted to UNC. I live vicariously through them in basketball, though admittedly I don't care very much.
Also, I hope dook and their rat head coach die horrible, awful deaths.

I actually stayed at the Carolina Inn, which was tremendous as well.

My hate stems from the experiences of friends and acquaintances. The guy wins and runs a clean program. But he is a disgusting human.
I have problems with coaches who hold themselves out to be classy and treat their players and people associated with the program much differently.
One of the coaches I've always loved and respected (despite being a rival) was Bob Knight. A genuine individual who cared for his players. I would have gladly sent my kid to play for Knight. It's a shame the rat didn't learn from Bob at Army.

I'm just not a huge basketball guy. But Michigan basketball is an embarrassment. At least we beat MSU this year. Almost beat oohi.
My letting it all out on Michigan basketball:

Believe it or not I loved the Fab 5. Especially Ray Jackson. He just seemed like the floor leader on that team.
I also am very happy UNC beat the hell out of the Dukies tonight. Somewhere Dick Vitale is crying some salty tears.

Duke is like BC.
I have professor friends at both schools.
Believe me, most of these athletes at both schools have their hands held the ENTIRE time.
I have a senior who will be playing football for BC next year.
He's currently failing four classes right now.
BC doesn't care. And they'll pass him every year, too.
Sadly it is not just these 2 institutions that treat their athletes like this and some times it starts as early as high school and just keeps on going. A shame on what the priorities are

No, but both Duke and BC like to claim that they're above what most colleges do. Don't get me wrong; they both get some pretty smart athlete, but at least 2/3 of them would never have gotten into those schools.
Coach K is infamous on campus; a lot of professors loathe him on a personal and professional level. He strongarms faculty into passing students that would never graduate if he wasn't breaking arms to help them out.
I lack any respect for him for that simple reason.

Duke and BC are both lauded for graduating their kids. They receive annual recognition for graduating almost 100% of their kids.

For as much as I'm not a Dookie, I can't help but think they got a bit of a raw deal with San Diego State as their 2 in the WEST. Reminds me of how Kansas got hosed with UCLA in 2007 and then couldn't get a call to save their lives in the Elite 8.

Duke will not win this thing. I think this group has pretty well shown that they choke like a 7th grader with a descrambler when the game is important and has an emotional component.

So, check it out: Duke, ND, Michigan - great basketball teams with real live academic demands, even if they are somewhat softer than they are for the student body at large. Kudos to the kids (and I know there are some) that take the scholarships to these schools and really get an education while they play ball there. They are three of the top schools in the country - the world - and it's a helluvan opportunity for your typical AAU'er.
Respect what they've built, be friendly rivals, appreciate higher education with all it's warts, not to mention great basketball.
I am on the fence to be honest, since we lost one of our promising new guys early on, I m not sure
Everyone is saying that UConn vs Duke can go either way( they both have to get their first mind you) but they are leaning toward UConn winning that match
For me this is a win win match up hands down
I follow a few teams from home and they are one of them, if UConn wins woohoo if Duke wins woohoo. Would be equally happy for either and equally happy for any team that comes out of New England. Have not done my brackets yet been down and out but need to get that done

You act as if I had some sort of belief that Michigan stood a chance. If you'll notice, I didn't say dick when we beat Tennessee's ass by 30, either. Because the reality is that we aren't good. Duke is better than us. A lot better. And we damn near pulled that ish off. I recognize all of this. I have no false delusions regarding Michigan basketball. Of course, I actually went to Michigan.
That doesn't mean it still isn't funny as **** to watch all of those douchebags, their dorky ass fans, and their slimy ass ratface coach get dunked on and embarrassed for 40 minutes.
