I bought a 5500 watt generator when i moved into my house cuz I have 2 sump pumps.
I used it once and it was great. The next 3 years I only ran it every 6 months just to run it.
2 weekends ago 12/6 I think we got a storm after it rained for like 2 weeks and the snow was heavy as hell, lots of tree branches bending and breaking and my wife and I were having a fire in the fireplace and the power goes out and we look outside and it's all blue (transformer arcing), blue goes away and the power goes on, power goes off and it's bright blue outside again...back and forth for about 15 seconds and then POOF! Power is gone.
Now I know the pumps were going off at a good clip and when i did my basement over I gave myself good access to the pump so I go down and open the panel up to look in and the water is about 3 inches to my floor.
I go out and set the generator up, run it, plug the pumps into the extension cords and....................nothing.
the plastic panel on the generator broke near one of the screws and it pulled out OBVIOUSLY disconecting something. I was pissed.
Went out and bought a 3750 watt one and in the spring I'll have the other fixed.
But seriously, WTF?
Here's my fancy pants pump housing, it's in the corner

Pete, just said it looks like at least a foot of snow for sure and Mass is covered in his track on 7 news
The entire State? starting when? I need to pickup some bread.
People in the corridor from Roanoke, Va. to Washington, D.C. to Philadelphia and Atlantic City should be gearing up for a heavy snowfall beginning Friday in the south and starting Saturday in the north as a cold nor`easter takes aim on the mid-Atlantic.
Confidence is high, now that the storm has indeed formed in the Gulf of Mexico and should have enough momentum to bust the atmospheric roadblock in the Northeast.
The heaviest amount of snow appears to be aiming for the southern part of the Interstate 81 corridor, but rest assured, substantial snow will reach the mid-Atlantic part of the I-95 zone, as well as some of the mid-Atlantic beaches.
The snow threatens to create widespread travel problems. Activities could get canceled, and you may be forced to alter your holiday shopping plans.
Just a bit of snow and ice can create slippery roadways from Greenville, S.C., to Charlotte to Raleigh Friday into Saturday.
Up to 8 inches of snow and sleet will complicate travel in Winston-Salem, N.C., Friday afternoon into Saturday.
As much as 10 inches of snow could fall in the swath from Washington, D.C. to Dover, Del. and Atlantic City, N.J., assuming no change to rain.
Philadelphia and much of southeastern Pennsylvania will get accumulating snow, on the order of 3 to 6 inches Saturday.
New York City, on the northern fringe of the storm, appears to be in line for 1 to 3 inches with at least some slippery bridges and overpasses. Central and eastern Long Island could be buried by a half a foot or more of snow.
It is still unclear whether or not snow will reach Boston at this time. A shift in the storm track by 100 miles could be the difference between snow or no from central New England to northern Pennsylvania and six inches of snow in New York City.
On the coast, from the Delmarva to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, this should be treated as a strong nor`easter with gales, coastal flooding and beach erosion. These areas have been left vulnerable after being battered by the remnants of Ida earlier in the fall.
In the wake of this snowstorm, attention will turn to another, even more widespread storm with heavy snow, ice and rain Christmas Eve into Christmas Day. This AccuWeather.com Headline has more information.

Get ready for some snow this weekend. The big question is how much?
This storm has been all over the map.
Some computer models suggest a full fledged Nor'easter for all of southern New England, which would mean about 1-to-2 feet of snow, while other models indicate a complete miss.
I think it falls somewhere in between.
TIMELINE
It will be very cold and quiet Friday and Saturday.
The storm will move in late Saturday night and last through midday Sunday.
If it moves five miles, it makes a difference from six inches to 12 inches of snow.
With the storm travelling offshore, the jackpot area is southeastern Massachusetts.
ACCUMULATIONS
The Cape and Islands can expect 6 or more inches.
3-to-6 inches will likely fall in Bristol and Plymouth Counties and parts of Norfolk County
1-to-3 inches are expected from Boston out to Worcester and up to the Merrimack Valley.
Again, this could easily change.
There's a winter storm watch for the Cape and Islands from Saturday evening to Sunday afternoon.

I love snow....one thing that is nice about the plains and out east....you get snow. Here in the part of Indiana I live in, we get 6 inches of snow, all the old ladies run to the grocery store. School's cancel and police say to stay off the road. I work at a grocery store and these people act they are going to be snowed in for days. Once we hit 10 inches of snow, travel does get tricky, but I have only gotten stuck in deep snow once. And that was because I turned around and had no momentum.

Imapigs accuweather forecast
We have a very powerful storm heading up the east coast...Weather models are still conflicting about where this low pressure system ends up... The reason for this the high pressure system that brought in this frigid air is battling for position. If the low pressure system used the I formation this will certainly help beat the High pressures weak defensive line. If this happens I expect bad things for the all of southern NE. Now if the High Pressure system stacks 8 men in the box and rely on the his all pro secondary the Low pressure should do minimal damage to western New England and leave only Worcester south and east FVcked... I hope this helps clarify things....:coffee:

Snow Coming This Weekend - Could Be A Lot

Some computer models suggest a full fledged Nor'easter for all of southern New England, which would mean about 1-to-2 feet of snow, while other models indicate a complete miss.

TIMELINE

The storm will start around midnight Saturday and last through midday Sunday.
With the storm travelling offshore, the jackpot area is south of Boston.
ACCUMULATIONS
The Brockton area south towards Taunton could see 12-to-14 inches.
6-to-12 inches will likely fall in Boston, west of the city and most of southeastern Massachusetts.
3-to-6 inches are expected north of the city and 1-to-3 inches could fall in southern New Hampshire.
Again, this could easily change, depending on how the storm moves.
There's a winter storm watch for the Cape and Islands from Saturday evening to Sunday afternoon.

Bloody weather forecasts. We got a couple of inches of snow yesterday, but the area North of London got at least 6. Here, it's enough to f*** everything up royally, because it snows so rarely, and we therefore don't invest in the equipment to keep everything runing.
The snow forecasts are so frustrating, because they are generally accurate about whether it will snow, but give you little idea about how much. :thwak:

Shiat... We got 10 inches a couple weeks ago and our school district announced it would be open. Well, until 25% of its bus drivers called in, then they had to cancel, which was nice now that I work for the school district. Course, it would be better if I was actually salary and got paid for all the days off that the teachers get.
But a little north of here... Janesville, Madison... They got between 18-20 inches.
I'm sure WisColtFan got some snow up in his neck of the woods. So, how much did you get W? Between 20-24 inches??
Anyway... I love how people up north, every year, go ballistic when we get the foot-2 feet of snow storm. It happens every year. If you were to listen to the media though you'd think the apocolypse was upon us. Shootin' the shiat with the cashier at the grocery store yesterday and she was saying how anytime there's a snow forecast people flock to the store to get milk, eggs, water, canned goods... ROFL If I'm running to store before a snow storm the only thing I'm stocking up on is beer and wine. ;)

They've been moving that snow line all day
Picked a good day to take off and get all my shit together.
WAS going to brew but decided to have everything ready just in case we get hammered, then I can chill-ax and get hammered Sunday
Nice thing is the bogs out back are already frozen so the ice will be good even if we get big snow.

They were right behind us and they started to go at it right off. After a little while the coed got a little friendlier, actually much friendlier. Every time I see or hear of Greyhound buses, may mind starts to wonder.popcorn
