Great show. This season is my favorite so far, and yes, Lithgow is fantastic. Though, my favorite character of all time has got to be Lila from season 2.
She was what I like to call, the 3 B's. Beautiful, British, and Batsh*t crazy.
That, and she had the single greatest line in the history of television..."Oh, excuse my t*ts."

Last week, I was telling my girlfriend that they were spending too much time boring us with Quinn and his girlfriend, and then they went and threw the twist into it. Finally! :thumb:

She was very good, but I miss Dokes the most. The interactions between him and Dexter were so tense.
I mentioned to my Dad the other day that if you could play a drinking game with Deb's character. Every time she drops the F bomb take a drink. You'd be drunk by the end of the episode

And bad idea for a drinking game, you'd be in the bag 15 minutes in.

Dokes was a great character, but I like the way they replaced him with Quinn.
I've always liked Desmond Harrington a bit- even though he's been in some mostly bad horror movies. But, he's believable as a good and bad cop who's got some skeletons in his closet that are slowly coming to light.
Oh, and Vince Masuka cracks me up every time. He's one of the best characters on the show. That truck of his with the blaring country music had me nearly spitting me tea out when I first saw it.

Dokes' line, "Morgan, your the Bay Harbor Butcher!" was perfect! I also thought that it was great the Dexter's inner voice always created Dokes with being the only cop in that whole house who got the creeps from him. This is the best show on TV. Although the fact that the chick that plays his sister is actually his wife is only adds to the general creepyness of Dexter. But nothing beats Dexter's inner voice lines, some of my favorites are:
"Do I see sheets of plastic in your future?"
"Let's face it, you've been a problem"
and from last week, the wife turns to him and says "Doesn't that scare you" and his inner voice replies, "Hello, serial killer here".
Lithgow has been fantastic. I can't wait for the last 2 episodes....

I wanted that too, at first. Rita has grown on me though and it kinda of makes sense as a cover.
I didn't know about this show until right before the summer. I actually did the marathon to get caught up lol..
Along with that I had no clue about Weeds, Californicatin or Big Love. Now thanks to the Showtime rep at work and I think Big Love was the HBO rep-I am caught up on all. I knew nothing about any of them lol!!

www.tvshack.net Has every episode of Dexter up to the most recent one this season.
Season 4 has been real intense. It's not like the past seasons where you were afraid he would get caught, but just the tension that is building up between he and Trinity (who needs a new nickname).
The previews of the last two episodes really surprised me seeing that Trinity starts to stalk Dexter and find out his true identity and where he works. Now Sundays are Game day and Dexter.

But, Quinn already followed Dexter around to get a read on his private life, and their last little altercation in parking lot started when Quinn was pressing him about where he was going.
Seems to indicate that Quinn will come after him.

Also, I thought they filmed in Miami. When Trinity was driving down the street in his Mustang, that was Ocean Blvd. in Long Beach. I used to live half a mile from there, so I know it very very well.

No real life murders really linked to the show.
Some nutcase kid strangled his little brother to death and said that he needed to kill like someone who's hungry needs a cheeseburger.
(Not a direct quote, but relatively close to what he said.)
Then he said that he watched the show/identified with Dexter.
The kid's a sociopath, had nothing to do with the show.

Just saw the final episode, pretty surprising ending but as nice looking as Rita is, she was the only part of Dexter that I didn't like. Can't say I'm sorry that she won't be around next season, although I'm sure they can bring her back like they do Dexter's dad.
Will be interesting to see where they go with Debra knowing now that the Ice Truck killer is Dexter's brother.
What to do until next September.
BTW, for those who want to see Season 1 & 2 and don't have Showtime. You can watch them instantly on your TV, Certain Blu-ray plaers, Xbox or Playstation 3 with Netflix

Dexter and Debra hooking up would be a nice twist. They're not really siblings, so it wouldn't be incest, but it would be just dysfunctional enough for this show.
Plus, they're married in real life.

Ok, so now that Lost is over I have been searching for a new show to dive into. TG and I rented the first season, first disc of this and Arrested Development to try out. As an aside, we also accidentally rented the second disc of Eastbound and Down (which is only two discs long).
Loved all three shows but I've already ran through the first 8 episodes of Dexter and digging it. This is gonna be one of those shows that I end up renting the discs of, three at a time.
Michael C Hall is phenomenal. So far, everyone else does a nice job in support but his role is on point.
Just found out who the Ice Truck Killer really is. Need. To. Watch. More.

Dexter is unlike any other show I've watched. It gets better as the seasons go on. Season four is insane. All episodes are interesting, and they do a real good job of keeping the suspense without over doing it. All relevant actors are great, and really well developed as the show goes on. And of course, Michael C. Hall is awesome.

I love it, but I can't see Rita onscreen without expecting her to spit out a snappy one liner, then her forehead to goes all bumpy just before she bites someone.
Sometimes you're just locked into a certain role.
Anyone seen Wire in the Blood? Whoa. Dark.

I love the dialogue and inner-dialogue throughout the show. It's fantastic.
"Needless to say I have some unusual habits, yet all these socially acceptable people can't wait to pick up hammers and smash their food to bits. Normal people are so hostile"
"There's something strange and disarming about looking at a homicide scene in the daylight of Miami. It makes the most grotesque killings look staged, like you're in a new and daring section of Disney World: Dahmerland!"
"She's the only person in the world who loves me. I think that's nice. I don't have feeling about anything, but if I could have feelings at all, I'd have them for Deb."
"Rita's ex-hubby, the crack addict, repeatedly raped her, knocked her around. Ever since then she's been completely uninterested in sex. That works for me!"
"The problem with eating and driving, which I love to do, is not being able to have my hands on the wheel at the 10 and 2 position. It's a matter of public safety."
"I can kill a man, dismember his body, and be home in time for Letterman. But knowing what to say when my girlfriend's feeling insecure... I'm totally lost."
"Human bonds always lead to messy complications. Commitment. Sharing. Driving people to the airport."

I know, right? Here's the thing, nowadays with Netflix and Blockbuster online (I have an account), you can usually find what you're looking for, especially if it's a previous season of a TV show.
Not sure if you have one nearby or not. If not, I just signed up for Blockbuster online and they're offering a 2-week free trial. You can easily bang out 4 discs of Dexter in 2 weeks ;)

I just finished watching a tv show called "Crimes That Shooked The World" and this particular episode was based in Australia in the mid 1990's. What was amazing is it was might as well have been Dexter's season that just ended this year. The same crime same methods etc etc a lot of similarities and I kept thinking them rat bastards of Dexter, darn their good :)
I know people have not seen all of the seasons so won't give any info away to spoil it but i was wowed :)

Is there a Dexter thread? If not, there should be! This season is wicked, and Lithgow makes an awesome psycho :insane:Lithgow was on Dexter? That would be seriously awesome. I loved the first 2 seasons, but haven't gotten beyond that.

I am watching Dexter via Netflix and I made it through Seasons 1 and 2 without a hitch. I was able to get disc 1 of Season 3 and now I'm stuck.
For over 2 months now there has been a very long wait (or long wait) for disc 3. Has anyone else encountered this problem? I Googled it, and it seems I'm not alone. Netflix customer service was no help at all. They thought people might be "holding" the disc and not returning it. So far, it is a rather slow season compared to 1 and 2, so why would someone hold that disc. Oh, and it's not available to watch online.
Just curious. Thanks.

I don't use netflix so I wouldn't know about that. But season 3 did start off pretty slow, and is probably my least favorite of the series, but it was still good. It does pick up steam later and is quite good, but it's left in the dust by season 4, which IMO is the best of the series.

You should write to your Congressman.
Or maybe just buy Showtime.

Pony up and get your tuckus over to Blockbuster for one disc. I used Blockbuster to watch seasons 1-3 and then when Blockbuster delayed releasing season 4, I signed up for a Netflix trial account and blew through the season in time to cancel it before I was charged.

Talk about useless suggestions. I have Showtime, chief. Season 3 is not on demand for me.

I thought of that, but I can't take advantage of the Blockbuster free trial. I was a Blockbuster member once before and they still have my info. I could get a friend or relative to go for it. Thanks for the useful suggestion. ;)
Hulu?
I know I have it on demand no charge up to the 4th season if I want to rewatch

Comcast? And can I get it if I don't have the premium channels to start with?
Don't have Comcast so can't answer that
We have TWC, I am lucky though been watching Dexter from season 1 so am caught up but fortunately if I want to rewatch episodes ( and yes I do hehe) I can see the first 4 seasons on demand, that is how my son started watching them.
and if they stop doing that since I do have Showtime I can watch it online through them if needed

Season 3 is pretty shitty, by far the worst IMO, while 4 was probably my favorite. If you feel like it, you may as well read a summary, watch the long last time thing and skip the season.
Other than introduction of a couple of characters (quinn, anton, that's it?) you are not missing much at all.
I was a fan of 5. There wasn't really much they could with the way 4 ended and as expected the first few episodes were fairly bland. However my two main issues with the series
SPOILERS
The main one. Come on Cole's getting in a car crash with the bodies in the back? Seems like a pretty big deus ex machica and just a bit stupid.
The Santa Meurta case - Other than the fact that one of the brothers is just forgotten about, it just seemed a fairly shitty case that was done with pretty quickly, yet still occupied half the early episodes. Also, that new detective was in it about once after the case closed?
Couldn't get a hotter bird for Lumen?
End spoilers
Good season, but i doubt they can really keep if up for to much longer.
My man Dexter comes back on the air next month
woohoo

Season 5 was terrible in my opinion. Hopefully season 6 redeems the show.

Having Dexter married and trying to conform did not work for him- she is gone and I am happy. :)

Hm. I'm only a few episodes in and I don't find it all that bad. Season 3 (with Jimmy Smits) was a stinker, IMO.

No problem. I already knew about Rita. In fact, it might be in my best interest just to stay away from this thread. :)

I was waiting for them to get rid of her since season one.

Should be interesting since Dexter married his on show sister Deb only to later divorce her irl.

Actually it's almost the same angle they went with last season. They should have learned from the third season that it just isn't a good idea. I won't go into detail to not spoil it, but yeah, I think it falls in line with season three if you ask me.
How many seasons does this upcoming one make?
