My family subscribed to the Providence Journal for more than 40 years. About 4 or 5 years ago I wrote and sent in the check for the quarterly renewal. I got a call a few days later from someone in accounting department saying they had lost the check and could I send another one in. Before I could do so Projo suddenly stopped being delivered and I got a call from their collections department saying I had to pay immediately by phone with a credit card to resume delivery.

At which point I told the collection person they could GFY, that I had already sent in a check and the day before gotten a call from someone saying they had lost the check I had already sent in for payment and could I please send another one. I furthermore let them know that canceling the subscription of someone who had always paid on time for 40 years of subscriptions because their staff had lost my check had just cost them a customer permanently, and in case they hadn't gotten the message I repeated in no uncertain terms that they and Projo could GFY.

Since then outside of getting USA Today a couple times so I would have something to read on flights, the only newspapers I have gotten were a handful of Japanese ones because they are a good way to practice reading kanji.

I have had no problem finding all the news I wanted for free online. I am happy not to have to recycle the huge stacks of papers that built up and all the junk and flyers that come in them.

And they had the nerve to call me a couple weeks later and ask why I had cancelled.
