Vinny Gambini: It is possible that the two yutes...
Judge Chamberlain Haller: ...Ah, the two what? Uh... uh, what was that word?
Vinny Gambini: Uh... what word?
Judge Chamberlain Haller: Two what?
Vinny Gambini: What?
Judge Chamberlain Haller: Uh... did you say 'yutes'?
Vinny Gambini: Yeah, two yutes.
Judge Chamberlain Haller: What is a yute?
[beat]
Vinny Gambini: Oh, excuse me, your honor...
[exaggerated]
Vinny Gambini: Two YOUTHS.
OK, I'm not talking about the movie. I'm talking about Sean Smith and Paul Kruger.
As of now I would not be disappointed if we took both these guys, even Smith in the 1st round. Kruger looks more like Vrable than any college player I've seen this year. He's a Vrable like 6'4 and 265. He looks as if he could be a DE to OLB conversion.
Smith would be ideal at FS but also could be a top corner. It would be great if the Patriots could develope a big corner instead of the smurfs that they always seem to have as WR"s seem to be getting taller.
Thoughts?

Did you say yute in Box's forum?:shake:
I put NO time in this year, so I cannot speak to these YOUTHS. But positionally I would love to see a bigger corner. The whole smurf thing was what led me to first read, then post at patsfans. It has been a source of disagreement with Box and I since my first post at patsfans 5 years ago.
Still, this team needs a big tweener SS more than it needs a corner right now. Rodney may not come back. Someone mean as a snake in his position is what is required. And at least 225#, fast, fluid hips in coverage, smart, and hits like thunder.
That Vrabes clone sounds good, if he can convert.

Utah is certainly the flavor of the month.
I believe BB likes to have at least one taller CB available for situational work, but so far he seems to be using veteran CBs like Chad Scott and Lewis Sanders, guys who can play some FS, start in a pinch, and know the tricks to playing a more physical game while not getting the Side Judge's attention.
We need to wait for the Combine to see how Smith's quickness measures up to CBs BB has drafted in the past. patchick has looked at BB DBs and reports this......there appears to be a clear profile for a Pats-drafted DB. It's not a physical profile, it's an on-the-field profile. Good hands, strong in run support, excellent field awareness and read-and-react/ball-tracking skills. The only write-up on Smith that is ready at the moment comes from CDS:Strengths
Long arms and strong tall build. At his best in press coverage on the short side of the field where he can be physical and jam his man and not allow a free release. Good ball skills and concentration at the position. Will deliver a blow to the WR.
Weaknesses
Doesn't get out of cuts as quickly as you'd like and may project to safety. Lacks the ideal top end speed. Gets up too high in his back pedal.
Projection
4th Rd.I guess if you think he's a FS then he'd be a good pick...
The Vrabel clone in this draft is 3-way player Connor Barwin, but either is equally productive on defense. Barwin was weighed in at the Senior Bowl, we know he's 6'3 3/8" 253 with 9 7/8" hands and 33" arms (Vrabes is listed at 6'4" 261). We won't know how Kruger weighs in until the Combine. I've already seen Barwin play up on his feet and cover a RB in the flat, I'll have to check my recording of the Sugar Bowl to see what Kruger did.
Barwin Kruger
11 7.5 sacks
14.5 16.5 TFL
49 61 TT
6 7 PD
0 1 Int
7 1 QBH
0 2 FF
3 0 Blocked Kicks
1 0 TD* as TE
2 0 PR** 10 yd avg.
i havn't seen anything of utah this season, but i've heard good things about Barwin, from wat i've heard, he sounds a good player and a good fit

Every year there seems to be an early "flavor of the month" prospect and Barwin seems to be that guy this year. Yes, I've heard really good things about him but we need more info on him and all the others. I don't put as much stock in the Combine as I use to. Word will get out on these players as team scrutinize them closer though workouts and background checks.
I've seen Kruger play twice and like what I've seene very much but we'll see when more info comes out. Early boards have him as a mid 2nd. Smith seems to be pushing the end of the 1st, lets see if he rises.

Are you drafting Smith because he's tall, or because he's a hitter, or whichever? Do you want him for CB or for FS?
Can Smith and Kruger do anything else to add value to the roster in NE? Let's here some of that snappy sales patter you use on the wife when she'd rather read a good book.
