I assume you mean S William Moore of Missouri? I'd love him, but I'd be surprised if he slipped out of the top 10 at this point. Who is Gresham?

TE for Oklahoma
great receiver, wicked fast with nice hands
doesn't block much, but in their offense he doesn't have to

Saw Gresham a little this past weekend.
A Shannon Sharpe kind of TE.
With the O-line as it is, a much more adept blocker may be in order.

I totally agree, but who knows if he can block or not. I doubt he's ever been asked to, considering how good their offensive line is, and considering how fast Bradford gets ride of the ball. Gresham is definatly slender and fast, built more like Gates (who is 6'4'' 260 to Gresham's 6'6'' 260), than a pure blocking tight end. I'm not saying that he will be great like Gates, but he is one fine athlete, and damn fun to watch play the position.
Pettigrew is the other good TE, hes not as fast as Grehsam but he can catch and he can block, plays for Okie State so he was in that game on the weekend.

I want a Day One TE, but I'm starting to think the Pats will need to spend one of their Day One picks on a SS, one on an ILB, and one on a CB. I don't know if they will Franchise Mattyice, but they could sure use an extra Day One pick to play with.
The good news, there are a number of decent blocking TEs with good hands who will be there in the middle rounds, I just wanted one who could also match Watson for athleticism.
Theres only 1 3-4 ILB i think is worthy of a day one pick and i doubt he gets out of the top 15 which is Mauluaga (sp)

Are there any TE's expected to be on the board in the third round in the Zack Miller mode? I'd like to see a solid blocker who can also move the chains underneath. I believe Watson is under contract for another year and Thomas is more of a receiver. The Pats make great use of their TE's as blockers in their offense (see Hockstein's contribution in recent weeks). A guy who can block and contribute to the pass game is just what the doctor ordered. A mismatch type receiving TE is great to have but few of those guys pan out as expected.
I like the idea of a true SS as well. I don't know who grades out how in the first round but there are so few impact type safeties each year that it will be a surprise if a SS with a first round grade drops to where the Pats are picking.

Bear Pascoe from Fresno State. Yes he is one of my binkies if you will.

Some others who may develop into that role are Purvis (BC), Davon (East Carolina), Phillips (VA), and Sperry (CO ST). Gronkowski (MD) is one to look at Tuesday in the Humanitarian Bowl, I've not seen him play, but his brothers were studs for Arizona in their Bowl game. My favorite TE in this draft is a DE/OLB prospect, Connor Barwin (Cincinnati) - he played TE his first three seasons and was moved to DE this season where he leads the Big East in sacks, plays TE on short and goal in Vrabel mode (1 TD), and is a STs ace too (not to mention playing Big East basketball a couple seasons). Check him out in the Orange Bowl, I think you'll like this kid - I want him in Rd 2 or late Rd 1 to play #3 TE/STs while he develops as an OLB - I saw him playing up on his feet in one game, more of a DL "rover" moving along the LOS to shift the pass rush, but he really shows great awareness dropping his rush to cover RBs in the flat or blow up screens and has 6 PBU in fine basketball 'shot blocker' mode.
EDIT: SS - I believe Meriweather has grown into that role and I don't see the advantage of moving him to FS other than his 200 lb. roster weight doesn't pack the same punch as Rodney's 220. There are a number of mid-to-late round prospects with some bulk whom I like, but the best Rodney-style enforcer/playmaker/rover is Hodge of TCU. He was everywhere creating havoc against Boise State in the Poinsettia Bowl and is currently projected as a UDFA by NFL Draft Scout. Boise State is a darned good team and Hodge gave them trouble all night, whether blitzing, run support, or coverage - in true Rodney fashion he got his interception with less than 2 minutes remaining to preserve a 1 point lead.
I wish OLB Casillas of Wisconsin had been healed up for their bowl game, he's a speedy OLB whom NFL Draft Scout reports is "Safety-like in coverage, able to shadow tight ends and slot receivers." I'd have liked to see how he handled Florida State receivers.

Thanks Box. I saw Hodges and liked how active he was in that game. What's the knock on him?

Thanks Box. I saw Hodges and liked how active he was in that game. What's the knock on him? Most likely speed (which I don't think is a problem), TV coverage, Mountain West disdain by people "in the know," and playing on the #2 Total Defense (behind USC) in the nation - the infamous 'everyone around him makes him look good' factor. Rodney was a 5th Rd pick by San Diego, if Hodge is that far off people's boards I think he'd be a great value pick in the later rounds.

Gresham is looking absolutly beastly in this gameYup, he's a good receiver, needs a lot of work on his blocking from what I've read.
his line does a real good job of blocking so he pretty much isn't needed to stay back

ALLworlTE pointed him out to me last night I like the way the kid moves and his hands of course. We also had a discussion about how Tight Ends are drafted since they don't seem as BIG a part of alot of college offenses as they might be in the pros so how do you judge who to draft?
Is it better to draft a guy who is decent blocker and sick receiver or vice versa? which is easier to develop at a pro level?

He was great to watch last night, Paz. At 6'6" and 261 lbs, I would think he could be taught to block and would be good at it. I like this guy a lot.

Is it better to draft a guy who is decent blocker and sick receiver or vice versa? which is easier to develop at a pro level?Well, there is a school that says get the receiver and develop the blocker - they spend high draft picks on the Winslows and Shockeys - not my cup of tea. Too many of those guys have the dreaded WR mindset - I catch, I score, I do nothing else. I'm also not too excited about drafting the unusual athlete at TE - Watson blocks well enough (now), but he just hasn't panned out as we'd like to see, Vernon Davis in SF is another athletic TE who is blocking well, but a big disappointment in other facets of the game.
If the kid shows the willingness to block, and has good hands, I'd rather go that route. Dave Thomas, for all he's been set back by injury here, came in as a rookie and surprised me with his blocking - he was definitely better than Watson at the time. Hopefully another year away from the foot injury and another healthy offseason program and he'll bounce back for us.

SO agree with all of that. Thomas seems like he is good at both. Thanks for that..the example of Shockey is a great one.

This is suppose to be a very good and deep TE class. And the more underclassmen who declare make it better and deeper. So the Patriots should be able to find a really good TE in the late 2nd or 3rd round.
I really like Gresham but I agree with Box regarding other needs inthe 1st round.
