I don't follow Country Music but I know good chit when I hear it and PatsFanLisa had posted something about Country is The New Rock so I am looking for some ideas because I have a hankerin'.......
I want some good, sh*t-kickin', ass-slappin', toe-tappin' tunes I can discover and let loose my inner Yee-Haw
post up your best titles&artists here, preferable w/ music vids to listen to too.......and don't be bringin' no slo-dancin', caterwallin' lovey-dove songs like:
"I'd Rather Have a Bottle in Front of me than a Frontal Lobotomy"
in cheer now, hear?
I'm a waitin' and anxious as a kitty-kat in a room fulla rockin' chairs, dagnabbit

Every summer I take the wife to a C&W concert or two as she likes the music. I really don't. However, I can tolerate and even listen to stuff like Wilson and Big and Rich plays.
This past August, I took her to see Wilson at the Cape Cod Melody Tent. Really good concert. The place seats 2,250, it wasn't full and the furthest seat is 50 feet away. The stage roates to almost a complete circle and then rotates back.
She would be one concert I wouldn't seeing again.

Ponder
11-26-2008, 07:23 AM
When I got Sirius and forun the Outlaw Country channel, I thought "I must be getting older, I'm starting to like country music." Then I had a 28-hour road trip with a country music-liking coworker/friend of mine and realized that I still hate country music.
I think that great line from the Blues Brothers was truer than I thought:
Elwood: What kind of music do you usually play around here?
Waitress: Oh..we play both kinds....Country AND Western.
I think I like Western a lot more than Country. You can't go wrong with Ray Wylie Hubbard, Lucinda Williams, the Old 97's, Dwight Yoakam, the Mavericks.

This is a great truly western song from the late and great Chris Ledoux. If you never heard it, he was really fantastic.

I did that trip...in the month of June, no less. Rented bikes in Nashville and road down to Memphis...104 swampy degrees. I was making up country songs in my head from heat stroke, stuff like "It's a Hundred More Miles to Memphis." Tupelo is on the other side of Memphis, not far at all.

RG,
I've always liked certain country songs and/or artists through the years but was largely resistant to tuning the buttons on my radio to a country station until a few months ago, when I listened to Kat country 98.1 on a long drive.
I decided that due to the wasteland that is over-the-air radio that I was going to stop pushing buttons constantly and give it a try and just like that I was assimilated.
Here's a song I like a lot by John Anderson doing "Seminole Wind". A great song with plenty of banjos and pedal steel. For some reason, right after the fiddle intro when the song kicks into high gear I always get goosebumps.
Maybe you will too. It ain't really shit-kicking music, but it is country.

I was big into country in the early to mid 90s, so I like a lot of that era's stuff. John Anderson ("Seminole Wind", "Money In The Bank"). Sammy Kershaw ("Don't Go Near The Water", "Queen Of My Double-Wide Trailer", "She Don't Know She's Beautiful"). Martina McBride ("Independence Day"). Brooks & Dunn ("My Maria", "Boot Scootin' Boogie", and a bunch more). Garth Brooks (everything he's done). Clint Black, Randy Travis, Mary Chapin-Carpenter, Vince Gill, Tim McGraw, et cetera.
The new stuff's not bad, either. I've turned to Cat Country off and on since seeing Gretchen "Jh" Wilson at Foxwoods.
Like any other format (alt-rock, pop, heavy metal, whatever), there's a big of great stuff, a bit of crap, and a whole bunch of toe-tappin' stuff in the middle that's brainless yet enjoyable.

And if anyone hasn't seen it yet, go to YouTube and dig up the Cheryl Burke and Drew Lachey freestyle dance to it on "Dancing With The Stars" a few years back. (The original dance. They came back and did it a few seasons later with other dancers around them, but the first one was better.)

There pretty much no other song that signifies kick-ass country the way Sweet Home Alabama does. Yes, Skynryd is classified as southern rock, but it was nothing more than just outlaw country music in its day.
Both living Van Zandt brothers, the one that plays in today's Skynryd and the other plays in 38 Special, have banded together to form Van Zandt...strictly country

now here's a shot in the dark question,,,,, a few years back just before a Pats game (a MNF the year Gillette opened I think) Toby Keith (?) was live in the parking lot and did a song he was featuring as a new release (or something) just before pre-game on the TV....does anyone remember which one it was?
Oh and before I forget ----
WTF R U talkin'??? John Murtha said on national TV YOU FRIGGIN' LIVE IN REDNECK COUNTRY -- WAKE UP&START SH#T-KICKIN' BOY!!! ROFL
I believe the song was "I aint as good as I once was".
I dont know how to imbed the video, so this is the best I can do.

Thats an
ALL
TIME
CLASSIC
EPIC story
Once, when I had been drunk for several days, Shirley decided she would make it physically impossible for me to buy liquor. I lived about eight miles from Beaumont and the nearest liquor store. She knew I wouldn't walk that far to get booze, so she hid the keys to every car we owned and left. But she forgot about the lawn mower. I can vaguely remember my anger at not being able to find keys to anything that moved and looking longingly out a window at a light that shone over our property. There, gleaming in the glow, was that ten-horsepower rotary engine under a seat. A key glistening in the ignition.
I imagine the top speed for that old mower was five miles per hour. It might have taken an hour and a half or more for me to get to the liquor store, but get there I did

My favorite David Allen Coe song.
Funny story. I was taking a deposition, and all of the lawyers were all from the South...two from Alabama and one from Mississippi. There was one lawyer conferencing in by phone from Alabama. So when I asked him to identify himself, he did, and then said, "now can you identify yourself, darlin'?" So I said, "You don't have to call me darlin', darlin'. You can call me Lisa."
They didn't think yankees knew songs like that. Lightened the mood up in the room a bit.

And this TM song, too.
I almost became an Army wife. I was with dude for 4 years, broke up half way through 2000. He was in the military the whole time. An E4 when we split. I was very proud of my solider, and that was in peace time. Sad stuff. :(

RG not sure that this link will work but, Ryan Bingham & The Dead Horses is kickin'.
Former Bull Rider Ryan Bingham plays Texas Country/Blues/Rock after starting out as a bull rider that occasionally played rodeos. The chickies seem to dig him a lot too but, the music is certainly more of what you're lookin' fer.
The song Sunrise is pretty cool but, Tell My Mother I Miss Her So is "drive till the Staties pull you over" badass.
