Hey all,
I have been going back and forth on this for a while as I have been persecuted for my love of professional wrestling for years now. However, I figured I would seek solace in the comforting walls of Patriots Planet and see if there are any other wresting fans here. To start lets get to know each other's taste.
Answer the following questions:
1) Favorite Active Wrestler:
2) Favorite Deceased or retired wrestler:
3) Favorite all-time face (other than answered above):
4) Favorite Heel (other than answered above):
5) Favorite Move to see performed:
6) Favorite Match:
7) Biggest let down you can remember:
8) Favorite PPV:
9) Least favorite person to watch?
10) What you tell people who say wrestling is stupid/boring/fake?
11) Have you ever attended a live event:
Here are my answers:
1) Chris Jericho
2) Retired Bret "the Hitman" Hart
3) Hulk Hogan (during his intial run) I was a sheep
4) Macho Man Randy Savage - he was just evil at times
5) Perfect-plex (I always wished I'd be able to do it, but my brother wouldn't let me do a move to him after I dropped him on his head doing a botched body slam)
6) My favorite match was Summerslam '91 Hitman vs Mr. Perfect.
7) Rick "the Model" Martel vs. Jake "the Snake" Roberts in Wrestlemania VII the blindfold match. It was just so boring compared to the feud leading into it.
8) I always like the idea behind Halloween Havoc
9) D-Lo Brown - I don't know why he just bores the hell out of me.
10) I am always amazed when people try to tell me it is fake like I am a 25 year-old educated and employed individual who neve noticed before -- who is stupid in that situation. Also, I believe they are ideal (Shakespearian-esque) performers and trained athletes. That is a hell of a lot more than boring old Joe Millionaire or Nsync yet their fame is credible -- go figure.
11) Yes I attened the first Smackdown! following Wrestlemainia X8 at the Corel Centre and saw the return of -- Xpac, wow.
Peace,
Matt

Well, this isn't so good, I just passed 30 posts and become a starter and I did it with a wrestling post. Sadness. Oh well!:banghead:
Well, Matty--
Can I just be the first to say that you are quite adorable in your obsession here... Truly!... Madly!... Deeply!... :)
I am quite sure that some other similar, adorably twisted minds (like dKM) will respond to your post with full (and sincere) interest... As you sensed, you are ALWAYS safe to share your deepest, darkest obsessions here at the Planet... :)
Having said that, can I now have a little fun replying to your questions?!... (I am not a wrestling enthusiast, so please understand that most of this is tongue-in-cheek & just for fun, K?!)... No insult intended! :)
1.) Favorite Active Wrestler: The Rock (nice BOD! Yeow!)
2.) Favorite Deceased/Retired Wrestler: The Gov. of Minnesota
3.) Favorite all-time face: Tom Brady's :)
4.) Favorite Heel: About a 2 inch platform! LOL! :)
5.) Favorite Move to see Performed: When I used to "pin" Sister-of-Peg down & drip/drool over her screaming face, to see if I could "suck it back up" before the drool fell into her mouth... Alas, it usually landed in her wide-open, screaming mouth... (NOTE: this is a move that was passed on to me, from my older sister, btw! Otherwise, I NEVER could have conceived of such a diabolical plan.) Truly!...
6.) Favorite Match: My date last Thursday night... :)
7.) Biggest Let-Down that you can remember: My date last Friday night...
8.) Favorite PPV: My date last Thursday night... (Truly!... Sister-of-Peg showed up, unexpectedly & unannounced!... Who REALLY needs an audience?!)
9.) Least Favorite Person to watch: Tony Eason?!
10.) What you tell people who say that wrestling is stupid/boring/fake: D'oh!! :)
11.) Have you ever attended a live event?: Yeah, last Thursday night!... :)
Thanks, Matt! & welcome back, man! :)

OP,
I'm currently in a down trend as far as watching RAW etc, but the cycle is a
wheel as they say and it's just a matter of time before I return to the
fold like I have many times in the last 35 years. I love the campy drama of
the whole thing and the WWF (I refuse to say WWE) brought it to unparalled
levels in recent years, though I feel it's in a creative slump at present.
Right now there is some large young man somewhere out there in parts
unknown (HEY! there's a great name for a band Parts Unknown.) that
is going to bring things back up where they belong. They just haven't found
him yet. It figures you would be a Jericho fan being a Canuck and all. He
is a good one.
Trivia quiz: What is the connection between the Patriots and the wrestler
known as "The Next Big Thing" Brock Lesner?
My answers:
Active - I really like watching the Hardy Boys - their athleticism is off
the charts.
Deceased/retired - Tough one. I'm gonna say Andre T. Giant. He was a
mesmerizing presence and a genuinely likable human being. I saw him two
nights ago in The Princess Bridge and I was doing some thinking
about the days when he ruled the squared circle. He was my favorite
all-time French person.
Face - How could it be anybody other than Mick Foley/Cactus Jack/Dude Love?
The man risked his life to entertain us and is both hilarious and
intelligent. I loved his first book. My favorite match would have to be the
"Hell in a Cell" where the undertaker threw him through the roof of the
steel cage and he broke his ribs and his tooth ended up in his sinus
cavity. Nobody could say that one was fake - it was one of the craziest and
most electrifying stunts I have ever seen.
Heel - not sure if he fits the classic definition of heel, but the
Godfather was my favorite for a long time. His schtick was really funny and
he always found a bunch of hotties from local strip joints to parade into
the ring with him for a little T&A appeal. My cousin AKA DropKickMurphy
once had a Wrestlemania party a few years back and he invited us to come to
it dressed as our favorite wrestler. My wife made me a vest and some yellow
trousers and I wore dreadlocks, a fake goatee and temporary tattoos. My
niece and nephew did not believe I was their uncle.
This was an interesting theme party as he put up black fabric on the walls
of his basement and spray painted wrestling slogans on them leaving exposed
brick and had decorations like a ladder and trash cans. It was a lot of
fun. Feel free to chime in DropKick and I'll see if I can find some
pictures.
Move - I would go with whatever radical move the Hardys are doing these
days - something that involves a ladder and a few backflips.
Live event - I attended a match back some time ago at Boston Garden which
was a real hotbed of wrestling fervor back in the day. I saw a Hulk Hogan
at the height of his powers destroy the evil King Kong Bundy. Say what you
want about the Hulk but the man knew how to work a crowd. I saw stock
brokers sitting next to bikers arguing about 'rasslin. Really one of the
most entertaining sports events I've ever seen in person.
Biggest letdown - When Vince turned the Godfather into a wimpy do-gooder in
that "right to censor" group or whatever they called it. Somebody should
have arrested McMahon for that stupid move.
Least favorite- Hotly contested. I maintain that HHH is the most overrated
wrestler ever and brings little to the table. The lovely and talented
Stephanie should have never married this clown. I think she and Test were
meant to be.
What do I say to people who say it's boring/stupid/fake? I blink my eyes a
lot and act puzzled, like I am blinded by their dizzying intellect and a I
say in my stupidest voice: "It is?"

Hawg -
I won't give away the answer to that one. I only ask that you give proper credit to the reporter who broke the story. To the best of my knowledge, no other news agency ever reported this connection.
Also, I'll post my answers to Matt's 10 questions as soon as I have them done. These questions deserve careful consideration.
I think that I know the answer to Hawg's trivia question:
"What's the connection between the Patriots and the wrestler known as 'The Next Big Thing', Brock Lesner?"
It is our very own Stephen Neal... If my memory serves me correctly, there was some article entitled, "The Neal Big Thing" and it related the story of Neal's collegiate wrestling experience, which included wrastlin' (& I believe losing to) Brock Lesner?
I was reading one of the current threads & someone mentioned Stephen Neal and then the ol' light bulb went on! :)
Am I right?! What do I win, Johnny?! :)

Well I probably ain't going to answer any of the questions, I don't watch it, but I wanted to make an observation.
Recently I had the opportunity to act as part of the Honor Guard for a WWE/WWF event in Abilene TX. The thing that most shocked my was the size of these guys. They were no where near as big as they are made out to be. I always suspected that their advertised size was a little inflated but in actuality it's grossly exaggerated. I am by no means a huge person but I larger than 75% of the performers I saw that night, I was shocked. I was eye to eye with Curt Angle and I'm only 5'10" on a good day.
Just an observation.

I didn't know that folks in New England watched the WWF, first of all.....
I'm not a big wrestling fan at all, but I've got an amusing story that involves pro wrestlers.
It was Fourth of July back in the mid-late 90's and a bunch of us relocated Yankees/Chowdaheads were partying down on Beale St. in Memphis. This one friend of ours, let's call him Jesse, decides it would be funny to toss an M80 over into the bushes to give everybody a good jump. As he's lighting the wick, we all quickly move away from him. He tosses the M80. It goes BANG. Here come the cops. He tries to bolt, but the boyz on bikes snagged him in a grassy knoll type area and cuff him. The patrol car shows up seconds later and they lead dumbass Jesse over to the car. He was mouthing off pretty good to the cops about it being the 4th and he didn't do blah, blah, blah....they were displeased with Jesse to say the least. They took him and stuck him in the back of the cruiser with a couple of cro-magnans that turned out to be WCW (I think WCW) wrestlers that got picked up for being disorderly. Just as they were about to shut the door, I hear the cop say in his thick southern accent "Hey boys, Jesse here says that all wrestlers are ****". What a riot! You should have seen the look on Jesse's face as the car pulled off....priceless. Luckily, he got his own little cell in the precinct and got away from the wrestlers who were going to kick his ass.....
