Seems kinda slow for the Pats. I heard Mazlowski has been resigned by the Chiefs.....where do we go from here?
...to the pub, I say!!... :)
Perhaps on 3/19/03 Patsfan... Or are ya not in the greater Boston area?... If I recall correctly, you are in Maine or thereabouts... so, what say ye?!... :)
btw--I REALLY thought that we stood a very good chance of signing Mike Maslowski (LB), but I guess that KC realized his value/worth...
I am kind of waiting for It'sGood_It'sGood to come up with his thoughts on the whole FA thing... You know--who we theorize that we might lose/keep and who we want to lose/acquire...

Here's the latest from the Globe:
http://www.boston.com/dailyglobe2/060/sports/Patriots_near_deal_with_ex_Jet_Anderson+.shtml
The Pats are getting close to signing FB Ritchie Anderson. That should mean that Edwards is gone.
They are also looking at DE David Bowens (Miami), DT John Thornton (Tennessee), LB Keith Newman and (most interestingly) RB Orlandis Gary.
I think this is just the start of a busy offseason.

19th Peg? Maybe, it depends on if I can get time away from the new baby and college. I live in Sturbridge, MA by the way so it's not that far from Boston. I lived a little bit in Brockton beofore, yikes!
Bowens, eh? I would be really excited about that move. If they pick up a serious player on the d-line, then they can focus one of those first round picks on a linebacker, even though it is not BB style, right Freak? LOL

I'm not sure what Gary's situation is.
ESPN and a list of top sleepers:
http://espn.go.com/nfl/columns/pasquarelli_len/1514735.html
Bowens, Newman and Gary are listed.
They also have a list of the top 30 UFAs:
http://espn.go.com/nfl/columns/pasquarelli_len/1514626.html
Thornton is listed on this one.
BTW, the Jets lost their guard, Randy Thomas, to Washington. He was a 4 year starter who worked well with Mawae. Hopefully, they will feel this loss.
Patsfan--
I think I know why I was thinking that you were in Maine... Didn't you used to use the handle "Ultimaincubus" on the other board?... Obviously, the "main" remained in my memory banks, but not the rest of it... Sorry about my memory hiccup!... :)
So, if you are in Sturbridge, then you are a little SW of Worcester, right? I am not sure where exactly we will all try to gather next month, but most of the suggestions have been for places NW of Boston, which works for me, as I will be staying with friends in Georgetown... But not to worry, as if this is well-received, then we can plan to do another gathering in another spot in the greater Boston area... Maybe closer to the Foxboro area next time?...
To stay on top of the details for our impending gathering, then check out my thread, "Calling all Patriots fans." I'll post them there...
Anyhoo--Thanks for starting this thread and thank you, Bideau, for the good info! :)
If we dealt with some DE/DT needs via FA, then that would sure take a lot of pressure off having to draft for those needs... I have always thought of the draft as a crap shoot, because there are just so many variables...
But then, FA is all about supply and demand... And would our needs be best filled by FA?... Hopefully, we will fill our needs by a nice complement of the two... (That is, a good mix of veterans and rookies.)
If nothing else, it should be interesting! :)

Another name brought up by Kevin Mannix this morning is Corey Fuller, a CB from Cleveland. Mannix spoke very highly of him. He was release by the Browns for cap reasons. Mannix describes him as Cleveland's version of Ty Law. Fuller has already been to Foxboro. If he's what Mannix says, then this may solve the other CB issue.

Free-agent fullback to visit Cowboys
03/03/2003
IRVING – Fullback Richie Anderson, who played for Bill Parcells with the New York Jets, is scheduled to meet with the Cowboys on Monday.
Anderson, who caught 45 passes last season, is weighing an offer from New England and was expected to sign with the Patriots until Parcells convinced him to visit.
Jamar Martin, who missed last season with a torn knee ligament, is probably a better blocker, but Anderson would provide Hutchinson with a good outlet receiver on third down. Anderson would also help Parcells in the locker room.

What a sh**head Parcells is. Seriously, the guy just lives to run interference. :banghead: You can't tell me that his motivation for doing this is to improve at fullback. Imagine the scenario: Parcells is offered the chance to farm the Jets while also screwing the Pats -- he is incapable of resisting such an opportunity. And if he scores a fullback that is gravy -- but not his intent.
I do love knowing the fact that with Jones and Parcells in the same front office there is no way that it can't end badly. I will put money on Parcells pulling some lame Houdini imitation before too long just when things are starting to look up for the Cowboys. He is nothing if not predictable.
