Know what I like most about this board? It seems like a sane place. What I mean is people aren't jumping off the Tobin every time something bad happens. I have just a few examples of this town overreacting which drives me crazy! Although I admit that I have a good laugh.

1. Theo Epstein is doing a horrible job because he hasn't landed the big fish this offseason: As far as I'm concerned I'm happy he didn't let up Fossum for Colon. Colon would have been gone after this year and we would have lost three prospects, two of which started last year for us and will be once again this year. By the way, isn't this the exact opposite of what would have happened if Dan Ducan't was here? He was run out of town for not only not rebuilding the farm system, but for burning any prospects we had for top talent that hasn't worked out. So, which is it Red Sox fans? When Dan was here all we heard was people complaining that we overspent for free agents and traded away our farm system. Now that he is gone all we hear is people bitching we didn't give up prospects (including a young left handed pitcher) for a one year rental. So which is it Red Sox fans???

2. Otis Smith can't play a lick of defense anymore and he had a horendous year: Another overreaction. He certainly did not play well the first few games, but he certainly held his own as the season went on. He had a nose for the ball and made some big plays (turnovers) while doing a good job of defending offenses who avoided Ty Law and passed far more to Otis.

3. Let's get rid of Robbie Ftorek, he is the reason the Bruins are horrible!: Last time I checked he wasn't the one turning the puck over in his own end. He wasn't the one missing wide open shots. He wasn't the one who put inferior talent out on the ice. The problem is not Ftorek, it is with the usual place, the front office. Now I'm not the one to scream and yell at Jacobs for not spending money (though I do think he needs to spend some more to make this a competitive team year in and year out), but I will scream and yell at the GM spot. Mike O'Connell is no better then Harry Sinden. You don't have to spend top dollar to win, just look at The Rangers. They spend top money for a horrible team. The problem starts with the GM and works it's way down to scouting. It is a flawed organization, not a coach who is among the winningest in NHL history.

Some good points, Patsfan. You are right about the over reaction from the sports faithful around here. A lot of us are a tad on the bipolar side. I've gotten over most of it but a few things still set me off. Like Manny.

As far as the Colon deal, I agree. In addition to your points I have heard reports that he has put on a bit of weight (260+ according to Pat Gillick) , but has started to work out and is slowing getting back to pitching shape. I have included a pic of him working up a sweat.

Good post, Patsfan. (aka ultimaincubus!) :)
I was just thinking along these very lines, recently...
The people going off the deep-end (on the other board), every other second was really emotionally draining and was sucking the life blood out of me! So, I hear what ya are sayin' here! :)
It is kind of funny how only good ol' fans have migrated over here... There are still some oldies but goodies on the other board that I would like to see join us over here, though. Given time, I think that they will... Glad that you have! :)

Personally, I think the reason NHL squads play well right after their coach gets canned is because most of them are either Canadians or come from semi-communist (or past communist) countries. Many in cold countries too! Therefore they think,
"Hey if the coach got fired, maybe we're next eh! I will miss the two hours of off-season we have to play golf and eat donuts on the beaches eh!"

"Zhea, comrade! Ve must play vell or itz back to ze lumber camp for me and you. For me I will have to pick career out of chore hat!"

I mean these guys must know they are a dime a dozen. I mean how hard is it to chase a black puck around the ice and drop the gloves one a week eh! They know they all can be replaced -- canning a coach just reminds them.

BTW - Bruins coach knows what he is doing leave'em be!

OK I am Canadian so I am allowed to make fun of them. I love Sweden's political system ( I just hate the trap) and lean to the left so I don't hate commies OK! Hockey is the toughest or second toughest sport -- bottom line! I played for 18 years and reffed for 8! I was just kidding OK! I don't know if we got any weepy-eyed whiners here so I am just taking some precautions.
