Hi all, this is my first post. I used to post at patriots.com under a different name, but the board style is far too annoying.
Even though he saw limited playing time up until the Otis Smith injury, I don't think he played all that bad. Most times he was in position to make the plays, but unfortunately he did not wind up making those plays. I think that with such a young player it is more important that he is in position to make the plays. I think it shows an understanding of the (quite complex) scheme and it should be somewhat encouraging. Of course only time will tell, but it will take time. Coming into the NFL as a CB is a very difficult positin to do well in. The talent is so much faster and better that immediate success is a rarity. I think his ability to keep up to the speed as well as be in position shows is natural ability and smarts.

Welcome patsfan! What was your nickname on patriots.com. Most of us here are migrants from that board designed in Windows '84....
I have a positive attitude about Myers and a pretty good feeling too. You're right it's hard to come out of college and right into the cornerback position in the NFL because the speed of the game is drastically different from any college setting. Let's see how fares in camp next year, as this year was pretty much a wash with his injury keeping him out of the action and unable to get any learning experiences in. Time shall tell, but I just hope he doesn't continue to get toasted like he did in the last couple of games of the season.

I posted as ultimaincubus. It's been awhile since I was around though because I didn't have a computer for awhile. But (thank god!) I have one now. Besides, I need it for college!

Welcome Patsfan, I also remember you and welcome you to this board. It's just a matter of time before more people just get frustrated with the official board and end up here.
To answer your question, I saw good athletic ability but they are going to have to put up with some growing pains before he pans out or fails. I do like the way he moves out there but doesn't really understand coverages. My guess is that he will start next year unless we pick up a phenom in the draft.

Welcome to the board ult....ma....us. I remember you from the other board as well, although I could never remember how to spell your alias. "Patsfan" is easier.
Patriots.com is the worst it has been in awhile. Most of the good members have grown tired of the idiocy and left. There is very little worth reading. I chalk my own exit up to the posts of Fonx-stock, batman and the Riddler (sphinx) who now account for most of the "content".
Leonard Myers? I am confident that he will be providing depth at db and he will have to compete for a position there as well. Myers has a good pedigree (Miami) but still is playing like a rookie thrown into the NFL before he is ready. I expect Belichick will do what he always does and bring in a lot of competition from the draft and free agency. Hopefully he won't bring in a bunch of chronically injured players to compete for time on the IR as he did this year. I think the position was such a weakness for the Pats that he will make it a priority. Myers has potential but he also has a long way to go to become a starting corner.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I agree, this is a huge upgrade....and I haven't been back to patriots.com board since I left earlier this year. Less lunacy over here! :p

Just came over from KFFL. Nice board by the way.
Pats ~ I like Myers but he certainly has a long way to go to unseat Smith. He didn't play that bad vs Miami but he was down right awful vs NYJ. He definitely went to school in that game. The Miami TD to his side was because Green failed to get over in time. Didn't help that he missed the potential pick when he did get there. I think we will see the spot opened up in camp. Expect a lot of vets to be brought in. IMHO I would love to see a high pick on a shut down CB this coming draft. But feel the other positions are a higher priority. Specifically DE\DT and LB.

I think Myers will be fine. He's not a burner, but he's got better speed than Otis, and even Ty.
He's also got a nose for the ball. Don't put too much stock in his play in the last two games. He was in position to make plays, but sometimes the throws were just good; ie Pennington.
Plus, he's coming off groin surgery. That's why he was on the PUP list, and didn't see much playing time until the last two weeks. Of course he's gonna look rusty.
His big problem, dating back to Miami, has been staying healthy. That is really the reason he dropped in the draft. He could never stay healthy enough to put together a full season. It was never a question of talent.

One thing to consider is that in Pepper Johnson's recent book he stated that he would be very disappointed if Myers did not have a successful career.

Hey Hawg! Artist formerly known as Hawg 73 here! I think that Leonard Meyers has the opportunity to go to camp and compete for the starting position next season. And with BB's history of developing DB's there is hope he could be an effective starter. But, to freaks point he will need to stay healthy.

Welcome aboard Mr. Underscore, this place is just getting started. Wait until FallingAlice comes back and sees all the new (vintage) posters, she is going to flip.

I think you should change your name back Hawg_73. In fact I am thinking of changing my name to honor the greatest lineman ever to play (with your minds) as well. Mine will be Hawg 73.1 -- All Country, All The Time.
(Don't let the conspiracy theorists get a hold of this one, they would have a field day.)
