Hey all,

New to this forum and I love what I see - you've got a cool, laid-back vibe going on here. Anyway, I'm an avid Pats autograph/memorabilia collector - anyone ever wants to talk Patriots autographs, I'm your man. On the official site's forum, I post updates on Pats player appearances. You guys seem to be lacking a thread like this, so I thought as my first official duty I would get one going. Here are some upcoming Patriots player appearances, more to follow:

Heath Evans will be in Saugus, MA at the Square One Mall (BC Sports Store) on 2/8 from 6-730 pm.

Roosevelt Colvin will be in Natick, MA at the Natick Mall (BC Sports Store) on 2/9 1-230 pm.

Rodney Harrison will be in Salem, NH at the Rockingham Mall (BC Sports Store) on 2/10 1-230 pm.

Jabar Gaffney will be in Manchester, NH at the Mall of NH (BC Sports Store) on 2/12 630-8 pm.

Vince Wilfork will be in Providence, RI at the Providence Place Mall (BC Sports Store) on 2/16 1-230 pm.

Ben Watson will be in Concord, NH at the Steeplegate Mall (BC Sports Store) on 2/17 2-330 pm.

Mike Vrabel will be in Manchester, NH at the Mall of NH (New England Picture Co. store) on 2/15 7-830 pm and at the Providence Place Mall (BC Sports Store) in Providence, RI on 3/2 2-330 pm.

Eric Alexander will be in Saugus MA on 2/23 at the Saugus Holiday Inn 3-4pm.

Patriots Alumni Len St. Jean will also be at the Saugus Holiday Inn on 2/23 11am-12pm.

Please feel free to add to this list if you hear anything and I hope to see some of you there!

Cool, thanks for the info. I work in the Providence Place Mall and actually have to work on 2/16, so I might have to run down and see Big Vince if I can manage it.

These are pay events listed. Typical price for an autograph is $40-$60, depending on the player and what is signed, i.e. photos and mini-helmets are cheaper than balls, jerseys, and full size helmets. Inscriptions, such as "Superbowl 42 MVP" and personalizations are usually an extra $10-$15. Sometimes freebies can be attained - I recently scored free Matt Light and Jarvis Green autos. These are usually hosted by stores and resteraunts doing "Grand Openings" or special events. Signings conducted by sports memorabilia stores, such as BC Sports, New England Picture Co., Gridiron Authentics, Signature Collectibles, etc. will charge a fee. If you show up to any of these events with about $60 you'll be fine - more if you need to purchase an item to be signed. I personally like mini-helmets best, they display real nice, though balls are cool too.

If anyone needs exact pricing for a specific event you can check the home page for the sponsor (ie BC Sports Collectibles) or PM me and I can relay the info. Note that the Holiday Inn signings in Saugus are a Card Show event hosted by Downtown Sports Shop - they have a website, too.

Another great venue for freebies, BTW, is to attend Training Camp in Foxboro. This year I got autos from Wilfork, Bam Childress, and Billy Yates, all for free at TC. More on that as next season approaches...

Another great free event is coming up at Foxwoods Casino after the Superbowl. Donte Stallworth, Ellis Hobbs, Maroney and others will be attending a Post-Season Party. This event however, is a VIP, exclusive for those who have lost a lot of money to Foxwoods! If anyone else has recieved an invite for this and plans on going PM me.

Great thread thanks for starting this Den! I might have to check out Heath Evans I was already planning on going shopping that night at that mall how convenient :)

I got a free autograph from Andre Tippett, Grogan, Steve Nelson and Russ Francis. I have a deck of Patriots cards and thought it would be cool to try and get as many as I can autographed. Guy at work was going to some meetnig at Gillette for EMC and he got me their autographs on my cards :) Now if I can just get the other 48 signed I'll have a full deck!

Thanks again for the info!!

Hey Virginia Pats Fans: Pats Great TE Russ Francis will be signing for Tidewater Sports and Collectibles at the MacArthur Center in Norfolk, VA on 2/18 4-6 pm. $15 autographs - any item. I've met Russ a few times and he is a supercool guy. Having been raised in Hawaii he usually adds a unique "Aloha!" inscription to his signature.

Any word on whether or not Tom Brady will be playing in the AT&T Pro-Am at Pebble Beach? He has in several years past, and I'm going to be there on Saturday.

EDIT: Just checked the newswire. Both Belichick and Brady have pulled out of the tournament. :(

Guess I'll just have to follow guys like Ray Ramano and Kevin James for some of the day.

Den, do you know if they let you take pics with the players at these types of appearances or is it normally just for the autographs?

Den-in-NH

Depends on who is running the event. A lot of the sports collectible dealers will not allow pics because they want to keep the line moving. Some do however. I have a great pic of me and the kids with Welker from an event earlier this year - much to my wife's delight!

Since this is an EEI event at a store I would guess pics will be OK.

Tristar Productions is hosting it's annual Tom Brady signing on 4/1. Note that this is a private signing- not an in-person appearance. Tom does maybe 2 or 3 of these a year. Items can be ordered through Tristar or you can mail your own item in. He will be adding a "07NFLMVP" inscription for an extra cost.

Google Tristar Production for their site and details. Note that Tom's autograph does not come cheap!

So, I guess I am the only one that thinks it's BS to pay for an autograph?

I can tell that I am in for a good explanation here.

Den-in-NH
02-08-2008, 02:13 AM
No explanation - you either think its worth it or not. It's a personal preferance. Some people think it's crazy. OK. The way I see it a player has every right to capitilize on their often short and injury-riddled careers. And for me, I have an amazing collection that is admired by anyone who sees it. Some day I will pass it on to my son.

Much of my collection consist of free autographs that I've aquired at charity events, promotional events, and training camp over the years. Other items I was glad to pay to have signed. It's all a matter of perspective. For me, I also get a kick out of meeting the players. I'm not shy around them and I've had great conversations over the years with guys like Steve Grogan, John Hannah, Adre Tippet, Wes Welker, Kevin Faulk, and numerous others. Last year I had a great conversation with Donte Stallworth at training camp. It's a hobby.

That's cool. I can understand the older guys maybe, because they didn't get paid the big bucks like the dudes nowadays do.

This is a scheduled appearance, right? These dudes don't expect to get paid if you see them on the sidewalk in the middle of town or something, right?

To answer this question, no, they wouldn't expect to be paid on random occurrences. Most players will sign no problem in the street.*

That said, there is nothing more annoying than fans asking for autographs when a player is eating or with his family. Homeboy is walking down the street, you catch him, fine. He can sign while he walks. But the people who come up to dude when he's eating a meal or hanging with his family are pathetic. Also, just because they make crazy scrilla, it doesn't mean they have some sort of duty to sign 11 autographs for you, your brother, cousin and long-lost relatives.

*funny story. The eBay guys used to camp out outside of Schembechler Hall, and training table at South Quad. They'd have full size, authentic Michigan helmets and silver pens for the entire squad to sign. I'd roll into training table with Tommy or some other guys and we'd always sign. But I'd sign real big on the front wing of the helmet. Then look at it on eBay, show my friends, and laugh. That added ZERO value.

Lol, that's funny. I think if I wanted anything I'd want just one throw and one catch. I might get Logan to sign the rookie card I bought when he first got drafted, but that would be more for shits and giggles.

It would be cool to reminisce with some of them, too.

I think it's safe to assume he's recovered from whatever dead-leg syndrome ailed him in the Super Bowl:

The Lowell Spinners, Class-A Affiliate of the World Champion Boston Red Sox, are proud to welcome back the star of last summer's promotional schedule, Stephen Gostkowski when he returns to LeLacheur Park this summer with an added twist.

Gostkowski is re-joining the Spinners Sunday, June 22 for New England Patriots Night, presented by Electrical Wholesalers. After converting all 74 of his extra-point attempts in 2007 to set an NFL record, Gostkowski will again allow fans to play the role of Kevin Faulk or Wes Welker by catching autographed footballs from the stands.

In addition, four lucky fans will have the opportunity to act as a holder as Gostkowski kicks from the outfield, directly into fans' arms in the stands.

"It is the thrill of a life-time for a fan to leave LeLacheur Park with a foul ball," said Lowell Spinners Vice President/General Manager Tim Bawmann. "It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to leave with an autographed football, delivered into your arms from the leg of an NFL star."

"Speaking from experience, there is no greater thrill for a fan than holding for an NFL kicker in front of a packed house at LeLacheur," added Bawmann, who held for Gostkowski last season.

Gostkowski, a former pitcher at the University of Memphis, will kick the autographed footballs into the stands from the outfield during between-innings breaks when the Spinners take on the Vermont Lake Monsters for a 5:05 start.

Limited tickets to this game are available and fans are encouraged to visit the Lowell Spinners Box Office at LeLacheur Park, call 978-459-1702, or visit www.lowellspinners.com for the latest ticket availability for the entire season.

I met the great Wes Welker yesterday at the Four Seasons in Boston. First of all, what a great guy. I walk up to him and say "so, that must have sucked..." He laughed and said "yup".

Anyways, I ask him to sign a picture which he does and he asks my name. He signs it and I look at it and it reads "Yeah, that sucked. Best wishes, Wes Welker." LOL.

He's my new favorite Patriot.

Despite the fact that the Pats have sucked for a lot of their existence, they've had some good kickers. Gino Cappelletti, of course. Vinatraitor. John Smith (he was English, right?). Tony "barefoot" Franklin. Matt Bahr (even though he was in his last years as a player).

The next big event on the horizon is Larry Izzo's Salute to The Troops fundraiser to benefit the families of veterans. This is a really fun event that is presented as a "karaoke contest". So if you've ever dreamed about seeing Tedy and Vrabes duet to "All The Girls I've Loved Before" this may be your best shot! Larry's event always draws a ton of big names from the Pat's roster. Past attendees have included Tom Brady, Tedy Bruschi, Matt Light, Mike Vrabel, Junior Seau and many others.

This event will take place at 7 pm on June 4th at the Roxy in Boston. Tickets are $50 each and can be purchased through Ticketmaster. Check out www.larryizzosalutetothetroops.com for more info. Should be fun - I hope to see you there!

The Wes Welker/Chad Jackson signing scheduled for this Sat. 7/19 has to unfortunately be temporarily post-poned due to personal/proffessional obligations. Sorry for the inconvience.

Rest assured the signing WILL happen as soon as we can reschedule it. Gridiron Authentics, SMI Authentics, and New England Player Promotions hope that you will still be able to attend if you planned on going. More information will follow.

I played in the Gilles Gilbert charity golf tournament yesterday in Winchendon. There were two Patriots Alumni there, Larry Eisenhauer, a former DE, and Tom Stephens, a former TE. Both played for the Pats in the 60's. They were very nice (I sat next to Larry at dinner.) I guess if they do some alumni events, they get free tickets to games. These guys played long before I was born, but does anyone remember them playing?

Here is the link...Vertrone for $10, I will have to do that. I took my son to a practice a few years back...he got 2 autographs...1 was Doug Flutie...the other one was some rookie who no one was around, he had a bad hair cut (rookie hazing), which Matthew thought was funny. The player signed Matthew's roster sheet and Matthew was as happy as could be...that player was Ray Vertrone. I smile every time I see Vertrone play, it reminds me of that day.

http://www.pinzbowl.com/vincewilfork/index.html *******************I'm going.

Hello everyone after getting some much needed rest from a long fought season that ended way to early, it is time for me to start once again focusing my efforts on something e very important to me. As many of you know I lost my father to diabetes when he was only 48 years old. Since I have started my journey into the NFL I also began my journey to help find a cure and help others with diabetes. As I enter my 6th year in the NFL I am so proud to say that I am also entering my 6 year of fundraising. Last year was such a blessing and we were able to raise over 100 thousand dollars that went directly to the Diabetes Research Institute (DRI) in Miami Fl. This year I have started the Vince Wilfork Foundation in an effort to support DRI and other organizations in their efforts to win this battle over diabetes. It seems like everyone I talk to has been effected one way or another by this disease. By coming together we can make a difference. I know that times are hard right now and that is the case for everyone but for me as a person who does not have diabetes I can only imagine what times are like for someone who does. As many of you know Pinz in Milford has become the official home of the Vince Wilfork Draft Day Fundraiser and once again this great establishment has opened their doors to all of us. It is my hope that you will join me in this fight. Please log on to www.pinzbowl.com for ticket and event information. If you are unable to attend but would like to contribute in another way please send me a email. As many of you know I answer all of my email myself. If you do nothing more than send your well wishes and forward this email on to others who may help, you have also helped. Thanks so much and look forward to seeing you or hearing from you soon.

Gil Santos and Gino Capolletti are going to be doing a talk at the Pats Hall of Fame in late April. I saw the one with John Hannah about a month or two ago. It was quite cool! And he signed autographs...no problem. And fielded questions. I'll get a link for the Gino and Gil information....April 23rd, 6:30

http://www.patriot-place.com/thehall.aspx

Anyway, when Hannah did his talk, in the auditorium at the hall of fame (where they have the ongoing Pats 15-minute video), he answered alot of questions. I asked him if the rules for how a lineman (offensive or defensive) could use their hands changed during the years he played. First he said no, but then remembered how happy he was that the defensive lineman could only slap an o-lineman Once in the face, instead of over and over again...he was pretty happy about that rule change!

Then he related a story about how once in a while, a safety would speed through the offensive line toward a quarterback. But Hannah said he got wise to that...and started sticking out his arm to smack the safeties hard, right down onto the ground, and then they stopped their blitzes....he loved smacking the crap out of those little safeties, he said! But I think he said the nfl outlawed his stiffarm smacking of the safeties...

I'm sure Gil and Gino will have alot of good stories. They do have a book out, and I read alot of it. Good stuff. I'll try to make their talk.

This was also another really great event last year that I would highly encourage checking out. LOTS of players show for this one. Just to give you guys an idea last year drew Moss, Cassel, Green, Maroney, Morris, Izzo, Spann, Woods, Jackson, Yates, Alexander, Guiterrez, Warren, S. Thomas, Meriweather, Wilfork, Gaffney, Sanders, Washington, and of course Faulk. There is a VIP open bar/buffet/meet & greet before the game if you can absorb the $130 ticket hit. Gen admin for the game is only $10.

:banghead: Of course it's the day I leave for Florida!

I had SO much fun last year. Amanda and I paid 10 bucks and we sat in the first row behind home plate. We got to see all the players up close and personal and Moss signed her jersey too! Unless I try and decided to leave for Florida later I can't make it but I would suggest it to all of you! Great time!

Hello Patriots Planet,

One of the things which I admire about the Patriots as a group of individuals is how active these guys are when it comes to using their time, resources, and status to contribute something positive to the community at large.

In an age of prima donnas and pacmans, it’s refreshing to see a group collectively take ownership over making a difference on scales both personal and grand. Just go down the Patriots roster and for every name there seems to a foundation or organization to go with the individual. Kevin, Vince, Jarvis, Adalius…each one has tackled a cause, or in many cases causes, which they saw needed to be adressed. It is remarkable.

Which brings me to Patriots Tight End Benjamin Watson. Ben and his wife Kirsten have decided to make a positive impact in “one more” life through their charitable foundation, One More. Through One More, Ben and Kirsten have been involved in a number of outreach activities, everything from food and toy drives to conducting football clinics for underprivelaged children.

It pleases me greatly to announce that New England Player Promotions is partnering with Ben and Kirsten by hosting an autograph signing event to raise proceeds for One More. On Saturday, July 25th Ben will be appearing at the Nashua, NH Boston Billiard Club from 5 - 7 PM. The event will be an opportunity to meet and greet with Ben, peruse vendor tables from New England Player Promotions and NashuaSports.com, bid on items in a silent auction to benefit One More, and engage in the all-around good time that a NEPP event held at the Boston Billiard Club can provide. Autograph tickets will be available for $20 and will be sold through www.neplayerpromotions.com and at the door while supplies last.

More information about One More can be found at www.watsononemore.org

Hope to see you there!

My son just mailed a letter with a card off to Tom Brady hoping for an autograph. I told him how I was able to get a few from different players several years back by doing that. The letter was awesome and it will bum me out if he doesn't get anything back. Basically told him he was a great quarterback and wanted to be a great qb like him when he grows up. Then he drew a picture of a football showing him where he puts his fingers on the ball when throwing a pass and asked if Brady could show him how he holds a ball.

Conner and I get to hear Tedy speak at the National Football Foundation's award ceremony this Sunday here in Arizona!! SOO stoked and so proud of Conner's classmate, Sean Craig who is being honored. Sean is going to Air Force this fall and is a talented tight end..brilliant as well.

Gotta peruse Never Give Up again and think of a good question or two just in case.:)

I have a really cool tshirt that I got in Houston hanging in my Pats shrine "Pound the Panthers" with a Pat Patriots beating on a Panther . DO you think an ex player would like something like that??

My son said it was creepy but I gave it to him anyhow. He said he loved my tat.:) He gave a CRAZY GOOD speech and I was SOOOO SOOO Proud to be a Patriots fan as he spoke about the team and the championships and so much more. *beaming*

I MUST share this part of the speech I just remembered. Tedy absolutely destroyed the Colts for what they did with going for the perfect season. He was plainly disgusted with it (as he was on air after the decision was made) and he dissed them BIG time last night in a "classy" way of course. I would guess most non Pats fans in the audience didn't pick up on the nuances of what he was saying but MAN I loved it SOOOOOO Much.

Hey guys I just saw on another website that Kevin Faulk is having his annual Softball game once again this year. It will be on May 15th at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton. It is a great event that raises money for the United Way. There is always a good amount of Patriots players there and last year I got a ton of autographs. You can get your tickets on the Brockton Rox website. I can't wait to go this year it is a great event for any fan.

other than that, not that inflated of a price compared to other signings I have seen

Merrweather has done several signings in the past and will continue to do so. As having done so his stuff is readily available in sports collectible stores and on ebay.

As this is Gronk's first signing, and his signing habits are not yet established, his sig is right now the more "rare" of the two. This will be the first time he signs any Patriots-themed items, so your getting in on a market that currently does not exist. Hence the pricing.

For serious collectors, have Gronk inscribe "Rookie Season 2010" on your item. If he turns into a stud (Probowler or HOF'er) that inscription will add loads of value to your item, especially if he only signs once this year - nobody else will have it.

But you're right Mikie, Mike's (owner of SS) prices are always very fair and he puts on a good show.
