View Full Version : Official Super Bowl Poll/Contest: Who Do You Like in the Playoffs?

01-10-2003, 02:14 PM
Time to leave the girlie thread for a moment (Alice...), get your mind off of women's posteriors and talk about another subject dear to our hearts -- football.

The playoffs are upon us -- the round of eight. The matchups: Jets-Raiders, Titans-Steelers, Niners-Bucs, Falcons-Eagles. Are you ready for some football? Some bone crushing hits, some shattered dreams, a few great plays, some coaching mistakes, humorous beer commercials, that one sustained drive in the game's final moments and with seconds ticking down the game is won by the referees. I thought so.

Who do you like? Why do you like em'? Homefield advantage or road dog? Don't tell me, put it in writing.

Post your choices (in this thread): Team and Score for each match-up. Predict the winners for all rounds from here 'til it's over. Winner "takes all". Closest scores will serve as the tie-breakers in the event of a tie...or that no one is right.

Be sure to take the poll as well (although it obviously doesn't count as part of the contest.)

Small print: Prizes equal 50 percent of sales. Not all prizes are available in all states. All prizes not claimed will be awarded in a separate drawing. No purchase necessary to enter. Pookie wears women's clothing. Sending money will definitely increase you chances of winning. Send your checks to NoRespect@PatriotsPlanet.com. There are no actual prizes. Bragging rights are valid for one year from date of entry. All entries must be received prior to kickoff on Saturday.

Okay, Here are my choices. (Anthing else is just wrong :D)

In the first game I have to go with Mcnair over Maddox. Steelers are about to swoon and the Titans are a better team than they realize. Never one to underestimate their opponent....Steelers drop this one to Tennessee's defense and McNair: TN 27-17.

Jets vs. Raiders. Should be a good one. I have to go with the hot team here and say Jets despite the fact that they are playing on the road. Pennington is like Brady last year, he hasn't had enough adversity to realize that losing is an option. Jets take it easily 34-24.

Bucs vs. Niners. Niners shouldn't be there anyway in my opinion. Tampa's D contains Garcia and Owens but this one is close: Tampa 20 - 17.

Falcons vs. Eagles. Mcnab and Vick! What a matchup! I like Vick but I really like Philly's D. This one has upset written all over it but I have to go with the Eagles, 24-17.

------------
AFC Championship
Jets vs. TN.: Jets 31-27

NFC Championship
Tampa vs. Eagles: Eagles 27-10

------------

Super Bowl
Jets vs. Eagles: Jets 27-21

You dirty bastid, that one almost slipped by me! You're in rare form today old man!

Here we go:

Jets / Raiders: Jets 31 - Spawn of Satan 23
- This is a hope game for me. This is not an educated guess. I hate the Raiders with every fiber of my being.

Steelers / Titans: Squealers 27 - Titans 30
- Another hope game, but.... The Titans D will give up some yards and points, but the Freak factor will come into play, you watch. Kearse will play the whole game. Pitt hasn't been able to run the ball much. So the combo of no running game and Kearse doesn't bode well for Maddux. McNair has also had some time to heal up his many bumps and bruises. He'll be a terror, but only if the Titans at least make a valid effort to establish the run.

49ers / Bucs: 49ers 10 - Bucs 20
- This might be a boring game actually. The Giants defense played just over a half of game's worth of defense... the Bucs will play the whole game and I think they'll fluster Garcia and the 9er offense. The Bucs offense is nothing to really write home about, but putting up 20 should win the game, as their D should dominate.

Falcons / Eagles: Falcons 21 - Eagles 24 (OT)
- I really, really hope I am very, very wrong on this because I would love to see Vick and the Falcons scamper into the Conf Championship. Should be a close one, but I think we'll finally see a defense in Philly that doesn't get surprised that Mike Vick can actually run. I like Duckett as well, but the Eagles defense will just be a little too much. They'll cause mistakes that Green Bay could not. This game would be more lopsided, but McNabb might struggle a bit after his layoff, but should start hitting stride in the 2nd half. Unfortunately, Eagles win in OT on a FG.

Wow, that's kinda scary, that we were pickin' the same teams for this week's games at the same exact time.

I'll give you the AFC and NFC Championship game pics next week, but it'll be Jets / Titans and Bucs / Eagles......well, as long as it isn't the Raiders, I'll be ok with anything else.

Pook,

You have to get you picks in before kickoff at 4:30 today for the championship games and Super Bowl.

You don't want to miss out on all the great prizes and the bragging rights...

It's okay you can copy mine. Flattery IS the sincerest form of imitation. So get off your butt and pick the last three games.... You too Hawg. And yes it is funny how all THREE of us so far have the same results picked, Alice too. I am not one to suggest any impropriety but it just goes to show you that these NFL games are all fixed!

Remember: You have to PLAY to Win!

Hawg is not mathematically eliminated. The first salvo has been fired and he would appear to be at slight disadvantage but do not tempt the fates Pook. He might be sitting pretty with the Raiders in the Super bowl and both the Jets and Eagles going home....

I am flattered that both you and Alice have agreed with my selections. (The most sincerely flattered that I can be apparently.) But don't think we've won just yet.

I have spent years of my life watching football and haven't learned a thing. I don't know squat about the NFL anymore. It is just impossible to pick these things.

Yeah, yeah, very funny. :)

Okay, so we are back to square one. You picked Atlanta and Alice, Pookie and I went with the Jets. I KNEW I shouldn't have agreed with their choices.... It will probably be the Titans and Tampa and no one will be right. I still like the Eagles in this one (otherwise known as the kiss of death.)
