Who else was impressed with Faulk today? Personally, I believe this was his best performance as a pro. He ran very well. He caught his normal share of screens. He again returned kicks like a champ and a punt return as well (obviously Troy's ass is hurting him badly!).
Isn't Kevin Faulk a Free Agent now? Hmmmmm.....

I have long championed Faulk. I felt in the off season that he should get the nod over Redmond, which he did. The problem with Faulk is not really a problem with Faulk at all but with how he is perceived. Is he an every down back or a third down back? To me that question is the problem. The problem is not designing plays and an offense around his abilities.
Faulk excels at situations where the design of the play gives him some space to work in. That is why he is such a good punt returner. He is not exceptional between the tackles but then our line is far from exceptional between the tackles either. In the preseason they repeatedly put Faulk into the game and forced him to try to run into nonexistent holes. He got labeled as a guy who couldn't run with power. How often in that game did Antowain have to try to jump outside? Too often and he is terrible when he gets his shoulders turned.
The Pats should design an offense that includes Faulk in more situations than just third down. Bring him in on third down and it is fairly clear where the ball is going. Get him in there as a receiver or in a split formation with Smith (or hopefully Womack or Larry Johnson...) and then the defense will have to start to guess. In my opinion Faulk could be used in much the same way that they use Marshall Faulk. He doesn't have Marshall's power but he runs the sweeps and screens as well as anyone.
Faulk had a great game for one reason. He finally got the feeling that he was the "man" and he responded. Now hopefully the coaches will have the sense to keep him...it only took two entire seasons for them to wake up and see his potential.

Hi, Guys--
I was really pleased to see Faulk as involved as he was in the offense yesterday! :)
Unfortunately, he becomes an UFA! From what his friend, Cotterpin, has posted on the other site, he will definitely get some serious offers from some other teams that have been impressed with him and recognize that he has a lot of potential that hasn't been tapped yet... I honestly hope that we re-sign him and then actually utilize him more, as NR stated... Otherwise, we could have a relatively costly learning curve with his replacement, whomever that might be...
Does anyone else have laryngitis today?!

I have laryngitis, pancreitis, encephelitis and handfuls of other 'itis' afflictions after yesterday's ups and downs. Oy!
Pook--
And how about a wee, tad-bit of cirrhosis of the liver?! LOL! :)
I am sooooo not ready for this season to be over, yet! I will continue to watch football tonight & during the play-offs, but I have not decided who to root for... I am thinking about Philly & the Titans... Although I really like Favre & company, I feel like they let us down big time... And although they are playing great ball right now & I admire Gannon & Rice, I honestly can't bring myself to root for the dreaded raiders... And don't even get me STARTED about those damn Jets!!!
What say ye?! :)
btw--how did you ever get that photo of NR?! (in the beefcake thread)... He looks just like that, ya know! Hee-hee! :)

I'll pull for the Titans and the NY Giants... even though the Giants may not last long. Anybody except the Raiders in the AFC!
Isn't that NR just a cutey petootie?
Pook--
I cannot believe that the Eagles lost to the Giants on Saturday... I guess that's why they play the games... The Titans have won like 9 of their last 10 games, I believe, so they are coming on fire at just the right time... They might be tough to beat, although Oakland has home field for the duration of their play-off games and that is one unfriendly field for a foe to play at! I agree: ANYONE except the raiders! :)
Tonight's game must most assuredly have play-off implications for some teams, as well... Is Denver in or not? I can't seem to keep up with all of the possible scenarios...
Yeah--ya gotta love NR's "rugged" good looks... Hee-Hee! :)
p.s.--thanks for helping to cheer me up! :)
