View Full Version : Patriots Fans NOT in NE

Hey, just want to give a shout out to all the Patriots fans like myself who do not live in the NE area. When we lose you all (NE area residents) can take comfort in those fans around you and pat each other on the back and say it will be alright. I have to go to work and deal with all the Eagles, Giants & jets A-Hole fans. I never talk trash to another team's fan. I feel it is in bad taste and even more BAD KARMA. Just want to hear from some out of the area Patriots fans that have to defend themselves on Mondays after we lose a game... :4321: (Thank God not this Monday :D )

The good thing about living in Minnesota is that when the Pats lose, you can take solace in the fact that the Vikings probably lost too (and usually look much worse when doing it).
They know better than to attack Annihilus because it's usually pretty tough to defend the Vikes. And payback can be a bitch.
Plus there is all of the Superbowl stuff hanging up and that works pretty well as an intimidation factor.

Well I don't have a job (no intentions of ever getting one either.) So I don't have to put up with rival fans of other teams. I do occasionally see them in line at the casino's sportsbook however. They don't appear to have much to say these days, what with the 3 superbowls and all. ;)

Yo NS fan..that picture of Hines Ward crying always makes me giggle......Thanx for flying the Pats flag all the way up there....You too BA in Vikings country..I'm sure the suicide rate is up here in the area because the jets lost and McNabb is out for the season.
I live in the middle of Colts country, so I certainly get an earful when we don't win, but honestly, the last few years have been so good living here that I can easily shut them up. It's kind of fun living in enemy territory actually. I've done things like sabotage our company intranet with Patriot Logo's, etc.
That said, I don't know how I'd keep my sanity without the Planet to fill me in on the real scoop on the Pats.

They must have been on you the last two years that they beat us. But we have the rings
Yeah. My reply has been 'nice regualr season win". I don't have to say any more than that and they go away....

Yeah, that's pretty weak considering that they would've killed anyone in SB XX. Hell, they shut out the best that the NFC had to offer in both of their playoff games, at least the Pats put up 10 on them in the Bowl.

Originally from Portland, but I now live about 15 minutes south M&T Bank Stadium (Ravens). Hell, I park in the stadium parking lot at work. I've lived here for 23 years (Maryland), and I'm also a big 'Skins fan (my #2 team).

I am originally from Maine but live in Memphis TN now. What really sucks is I have to pay 250 bucks this year to watch the Patriots because I am forced to watch the Titans on regular TV. I mean it is worth it but I could probably see 10 out of the 16 games on regular TV if it wasn't for those Titans.

Good thread. SF Bay Area resident for so long now it's like I was born here, but I still live and die with the Patriots. I did "adopt" the 49ers as a second team when Walsh and Montana arrived, but who wouldn't. Fabulous team, also through some of the Steve Young years. Now it's all Patriots again for me, except the 49ers are eke-ing back (5 - 5 now) a little. Mike Nolan looks to be a good coach. I watched some of the game yesterday and pulled for them, maybe about 15% as much as I would for the Patriots. People out here are not that passionate as fans, at least not in Silicon Valley, as Back East. So, you can say something to get a rise out and they'll go, "OK". Too easy. The Raiders are pathetic. Davis and Shell, give me a break.
Sorry, I thought this was a thread about Patriots fans not be allowed in Nebraska.

Yeah it's pretty much a given that if you move out of NE you're gonna be assraped to get your Pats fix. Those bastards at DirectTV are approaching $1000 of my money.

Yeah...I have had the NFL Sunday ticket forever......It's expensive and God knows I don't make that much money but I need to see my PATS......When I lived in an apartment I had to go to a sports bar to see them. They gave the Pats fans a little TV in the corner. I have yet to see them in the new stadium...just can't afford to drive up there and pay all that money for tickets....Maybe next season...Damn, the last time I saw them in person was the 1995-96 super bowl season. Twice at the Meadowlands and once up in Mass.

Vito Babe... Where you at? I just moved back to Mass after 13 years in San Francisco. Do you watch games at the Connecticut Yankee (only the best NE sports bar West of the Mississippi)? So true to the homeland that the paddy wagons had to come get us after the Sox won in '04.

It is worth it for sure. I just remember signing up for NFL ticket the 1st time and getting 3 free months of Direct TV whick about equalled the cost of the Ticket (150 or so). It just goes up quite a bit every year. Ahh well, it is only money! Can't put a price on 3 Superbowls I guess. :D

It's Indiana for me, so it's challenging to say the least. The Colt fans have become a lot more aggressive, contenscious, and frustrated over the past few years. We have certainly added to their consternation, so at times it's best to keep somewhat of a low profile.
However, I just hope come January I'm beaming, and they are frowning worse than ever....it's something I can live with....:)

When Packer fans try that with me RE: SB XXXI, I say, "Well, if you guys could actually get back to a Super Bowl in this century, maybe we could have a little rematch." :D
The '85 Bears remind me of the Packers team that won the first two Super Bowls - it wasn't that the NFL was better than the AFL, it was just that Lombardi and those Packers were better than than anyone else in football, period. Any other NFL team and it might have been a different story.
Likewise, the '85 Pats might just have beat any of the other NFC teams that made the playoffs that year. Or at least the score would have been closer.

Just a thought but couldn't you just add the local network channels CBS ABC NBC FOX (4-5-7-9-25) from the boston market to your direct tv for like $5.99 a month? That would probably get you 15 or 16 games CBS and ABC (4 and 5). I believe you can purchase another set of local network stations from any market direct tv offers. Seems like a way to beat the high price of NFL sunday ticket if all you really want is the Pats games. Plus you could add them thru the football season and then cancel them after FEB. Am I making any sense?

Often if you are served by another local market, you have to get waivers from them to get out of market networks (local ad dollars, etc...) Most of the time, the local stations do not grant the waiver.

When I Got Direct tv back about 4 yrs ago they asked me where I wanted my network affiliates out of Boston, New York, Atlanta etc.
Thats CBS NBC ABC FOX. I also had a friend that had 2 different Network affiliates east coast and a west coast so i think it is doable you just have to pay the extra $5.99 for each Network and that should cover their fees. UT I'm not taking about getting out of their market, I'm taking about adding a second market. I keep reading about the $$$$ for NFL sunday ticket to watch the patriots yet by adding the boston affiliates of the networks you could get dam near all of them for just the cost of the second network. I don't know why they still wouldn't allow you to do it. I'll have to call Direct TV and see what the skinny is.

My understanding is that if you can't get your local stations with an antenna, you have the option of getting one of 5 or 6 different cities - NY, LA, Chicago, Atlanta, Denver and I think another one (though NOT Boston).
Oddly enough, Bell Expressvu, a Canadian satellite company, does have ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX from Boston for everyone. (Even on cable in my hometown here in New Brunswick, I get Boston CBS and NBC...)

Question:
Can I get local channels from another part of the country
From The Direct TV site
Under federal law, we can provide local channels only within a local television market. For example, we can provide San Francisco stations only in San Francisco and the surrounding areas. Federal law requires us to respect the local TV markets boundaries, which are established by Nielsen Media Research. Distant broadcast network feeds from New York and Los Angeles are available only to customers who cannot receive an over-the-air signal from a local TV station and to customers who get waivers from their local TV stations.
Ut is right but then again I don't recieve any "over the air" signal from a local TV station either. I think thats one loop hole in this if you can't recieve over the air signals from a local station but by the looks of it you would then be able to get a Direct TV feed from only either NY or LA. That sucks

My son's in laws live in Hayward, and I used to go to Mariposa for FCC testing of computers in my previous career. So, you became a Patriots fan because of Logan? (not that there's anything wrong with that). As far as Jerry Rice, as much as I have to respect his accomplishments, he was still a whiner aboout getting the ball enough and wanting to get the recognition Joe got, at least for some of his years with the Niners. For some reason, those things stick in my mind about him. Joe, Steve, John Taylor, Lott and Craig were my favorite Niners from those teams.
Hey, today's Niners could be on the way back, but today's Patriots are still "here".

From Leominster originally. DirecTV is a Godsend for me though. Couldn't get it back when I was living in Seattle or England. Moved to Virginia a few years ago (currently in Fredericksburg via Falls Church) and convinced the Wifely Unit that I either get NFL Sunday Ticket, or develop a really bad crack habit. She relented (eventually).
Coming into work after a loss has been tough, because there are fans from all over the country (military) supporting their teams. Some are more outspoken than others.

Coming into work after a loss has been tough, because there are fans from all over the country (military) supporting their teams. Some are more outspoken than others. with the more obnoxious ones, couldn't you just like shoot 'em?
there must a couple of weapons lying around in that kind of setting

Well, I guess I could, but there would be all kinds of paper work and stuff. Not to mention diggin' a hole to hide the stiff and buying lime to cover the stench of the decaying corpse. You'd have to be a grade "A" touch-hole to warrent that kind of commitment from me.
I prefer to engage in a continued campaign of passive aggressiveness, psyops, and subterfuge. :D Break their will slowly. It takes a little longer, but well worth the show.

I knew I should have posted another pic, but we both pretty much look silly in that one so I put this one on. Out of all the girlie pics this one gets attention? Ya frickin horndogs!
Cool, hemi about your wife. I played softball for 15 years. I was trying to get to Fresno State when I got pregnant. She must have had a lot of fun.
Funny about sports. You work your ass off, you don't have any real time to do other things, you get earfulls from the coaches, and yet you remember them as some of the best times in your life. :thumb:

That sucks
I am still going to call them directly and ask about this. Because if I can do this and save 200 dollars a year I am going to be very happy with you!

I am in the Air force and live in alaska. I have to deal with a variety of different NFL fans. This week is great cause my boss is a bears fan. But i also deal with my 2 brothers who are broncos and chargers fans respectively. worst of all, especially this week, my wife is a BEARS fan. the worst thing about being up here is everything on TV is about the damn seahawks. good lord i cant stand the seahawks.

It's really not that much. If you get the cheapest programming package (which I have) it'd probably run you about $240.00. You'll pay that over 4 months. This doesn't take into account that you get the best programming package free for 6 months for first time buyers of DirectTV/Sunday Ticket. And the fact that the season is half over and Sunday Ticket probably has a deal now.
Seriously, give the husband something "special" and he'll probably hook you up. ;)
Otherwise, let us know and we'll take up a collection or something. :thumb:

Living in Cork County, Ireland. Cobh, to be exact (on Great Island just to the SE of Cork City). Yeah, I know, "Kerryman," that's because I was living in County Kerry when I joined PP. I am in mourning over not being able to go to my local to watch the Pats games with the boys.
Grew up in Mission Hill and mostly Roslindale. Only NFL player I had any remote connection to was Steve DeOssie, another Rossie (pronounced "Rozzie") boy, used to see him around Healy field, he's just my age and hung around with a group I was on the periphery of.
DenisM - hey there. FYI, it costs about 200 Euros to get a year of NFL Game Pass...you can pick from and move arund between every NFL game, watching them on your web browser...it came into existence just before this season began. Every week except this past one the quality's been good enough. Do I remember correctly you're up around BlackPool? Lemme know if you have any interest in coming by to check out a Pats game on the small screen.

Wow, I thought someone said 1000 bucks. Does the cheap package get all the Pats games?
And we have all sorts of "specialness" here, so I don't need to use it to bribe him, although I am sure he wouldn't care.:)

Sunday ticket is $200 bucks per season. You were probably thinking of me with the $1000 comment. That was me bitching about the money I spent over 5 seasons. :D
The programming package has nothing to do with anything. The cheapest one is like $40 bucks and you get everything except the movie channels (pretty much.) Again, you'll probably get the best programming package free for 6 months anyway.

Just to add, you get EVERY GAME for every team with sunday ticket. The one's you don't get through them will be on your local channels. I've been out here for a while and have never missed a Pats game.
I think DirectTV owes me some money now. ;) :D

Oh, I get ya now. Cheapest package means regular channels, not different levels of Sunday Ticket. $200 isn't really that bad for everygame for everyteam. Thanks for the info!

Thanks, Jheavner, very nice of you.
FWIW, my brother taught 4th/5th grade in Hayward for a few years in the late 90s into 2000 or so I think. He lived there briefly but lived in San Leandro most of the time he was there. Myself, I lived in San Jose for a few months in '92, working for the (obviously unsuccessful) campaign to get the San Jose folk to co-fund a stadium so the (baseball) Giants would move there. Lived in Cal for about five years total. So I'm kinda familiar with your turf...hey, we've taken very different paths to this board. Glad to make your acquaintance - go raibh mille math agat (many thanks)!

I wish DirecTV would have a package that you can order the games from one team for a much lower price. I mean I get the Sunday Ticket only to see the Pats. I really don't care to see all the other games. I'll watch whatever is on locals where I am after I see my Patriots' game. They could do that for like 80 bucks a season or something like that...Let's start a petition!

I agree that it would be nice to have a package like this. I do enjoy having all the games on, but when the Pats are on that's all I watch, and since they play during the "early game" time most of the other games I never see anything but the highlights.
If we have a night game, or during the bye week, it's fun to look at the list of all the games and pick and choose. If I want to watch the Texans against the Jaguars, I can. I don't have to just take the Packers on Fox and whatever AFC game CBS deems worthy of showing in my area.

Well Direct TV is all about the $$$. I've always wondered who in hell needs over 100 channels? When i got direct tv they offered a package called select choice which at the time had 44 channels and it was $22.99 then add in $5.99 for the local networks and you had a decent programing package for under $30.00. Now they only offer total choice 155 channels and its $44.99. Why the hell do i need 155 channels when I don't even watch half of the 44 I have? Like you I thought wouldn't it be nice if direct tv offered a package of 20 channels that you get to pick excluding the premium show time hbo and the nasty channels for a lower cost. It isn't going to happen as a matter of fact its just going to get more expensive. Select choice is not an option now for new subscribers but I have it under their grandfathered clause and will have it until I cancel or upgrade and then its gone for me too. $34.99 is what my package plan cost including the local (Boston) affiliates.
Speaking of direct tv early one morning a few months ago I wasn't feeling well and got up and sat in the recliner. It was about 4 am and I turned on the tv and then reclined hoping to get back to sleep. The TV was on the history channel (I figured that would bore me enough to go to sleep) and just as I started to doze off I hear this moaning and groaning. When I sat up and looked the spice channel was on and it was umm graphic to say the least. It went on for about 20 minutes and then a black out (opps I mean rain fade) and back to history channel. Someone must have got their ass chewed on big time for allowing the spice channel to feed thru the history channel.
Sure wished I could afford the spice channel. :D

Good thinking on the whole, "make them dig the hole" thing mikie. I'll give you a call if such a need should arise.
If you really prefer the passive agressive with sex option, you should come to work here. Everyone is passive aggressive, and always looking to screw each other. And not in the "Shannon Tweed" on Skinemax sense. More like the Ahhnuld Swarzenbagel in Total Recall drilling the dude through the side of the tunnel digging machine.
